There's been no link with him or anything, but he's supposedly surplus to requirements at United for the rest of the season, what are people's opinions on him? Would having him on loan for 6 months be a bad move? Or is he the type of player we should be going for to keep us up?
he's another Kieron Dyer when it comes to fitness, but if he can stay injury free he can still bang the goals in as he is a gifted natural striker- exactly what we need! may have lost alot of pace but still pops up in the right place at the right time like a proper striker should. so yeah i'd take him but doubt he'd want to come to us...
No I wouldn't expect him to come to us or anything, but then again he's being linked with Brighton at the moment so I would have thought he'd have a more ambition to stay in the prem than drop down a league.
A 6 month loan deal would surely suit both the club and the player. If he's seriously considering Brighton then he must consider us as well if we went in for him. Keep him fit and he would score for us without doubt.
I don't think he will move south for this reason as he is close enough to keep an eye on things at his stable from Manchester, I can't see him playing on once his contract has finished and will be a trainer by the time he is 35.
Fits right in with our recent signings profile 1. Over 30 2. Injury prone 3. Been there, done that, living on his reputation (once upon a time) 4. Seeking one last payday
Michael Owen 18 Starts for Man Utd, 34 as sub: 17 Goals That's better stats than our forwards! would be worth a go if he would come down to London
We should have taken Kevin Phillips if we are looking at short term solutions. Not as high profile but not as injury prone.
I don't know how anyone can say that if he was ambitous he wouldn't be 5th choice at manure, take into account that he didn't cost a penny has not come through at the club and he is also a former Liverpool player. If he could stay fit and played for another club he would still be playing for England (not a forgotten man, by a useless England manager). On form Owen is a goalgetter he has proved that at Real Madrid, Liverpool, Newcastle, England and manure, the only thing left for him is regular Football (If he stays injury free, he might even push for an England place, if useless capello goes.
You have to play regularly to be considered for England and the fact he's happy to play a handful of games a season tells you he has no desire to fight his way back. Yesterday's man...
I honestly think he would do a job at LR even if he only plays half a season..he still knows where the net is.... We dont need the "old" Owen with pace etc...we need the one that calmly slots the ball into the back of the net 15 times a season by being in the right position in the box and using his experience.... Has definate motivation issues, but i think MH could sort that out by making him the main man or Marquee signing....?..IMHO Just a thought
