Can't understand why NM would move to Wigan. He turned down LCFC last summer in preference to Wigan ???? We'll all be playing each other next season,if we stay up, and can anyone honestly prefer playing in front of 6,000 fans on a rugby pitch. Mad.
I guess he is hoping to take the prem by storm and hope that if they go down someone else comes in for him. Wouldn't surprise me if he had a relegation clause put into it. But have to wait and see if this forces other clubs to come in with bids now!
He is confident in his ability - either his goals will keep them up or his goals will prove that he is premier league quality and so can get yet another move if Wigan go down... My opinion: he will score 1 or 2, be found out at that level and be benched
well i hope we put a 20% sell on clause on him so if he does make it in the prem (which i have full confidence he will) then we can get a hefty lump when wigan get relegated, but if he does chose wigan then i can honestly say i will lose all respect for the man as he chose the money, id rather stay in the championship with us for another year than go to wigan, but i do hope he goes
Hopefully he signs for them we get most of our initial outlay on him back, the club can move on, with players that actually want to play for Bristol City.
It's been publicy stated before that no player would leave BCFC without a sell on clause unless they were utter **** and we wanted rid of them. There will almost certainly be a sell on clause of 20% in Maynard's sale contract should it go through. For all the non-financial types out there, sell on clauses are calculated on net profit, less any adjustments of the sale price less the purchase price so Crewe will not get anything from this deal unless the price goes above 2.25 million. As has been pointed out, Maynard shafts his boyhood cub in the process and Crewe is a fabulous club who survive on transfer dealings. Greedy little skid..... Took a quick peek at the Wigan board and absolutely no commentary on this move. Either they don't care or Wigan really is a rugby league town. They have a brilliant manager, sweet stadium, magnificent chairman and zero support. It's a shame - no disrespect to Wigan but this hardly shows ambition by Maynard. Let's hope that Swansea are now brought into a bidding war. Personally, I think that's a far better destination. Just hope it all happens soon as otherwise this will be a major distraction for the rest of the campaign and will leave all of us pissed off beyond belief.
Don't think Swansea will be spending much, they've just declared an £8m loss.. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11731/7451591/Swans-reveal-financial-loss
Wigan have an average crowd attendance of 17,000, at the start of their prem campaign it was around 24,000, a huge drop yes but if they get relegated they will not have around 6,000, what nonsense. I watched them when they were in the championship and they were still pulling in huge crowds. There isn't many Wigan fans on this site, they will be on their own club forums http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=558&fid=516&sty=2&act=1&mid=2115482939
As for talks of a sell on clause it all comes down to the wording whether it states that it is a straight sell on clause or whether it has the word profits in it wording. If its is a sell on clause of the profits then Crewe would only see any money if we sell him for greater than the price we bought him for so on the sums talked about they would get nothing if we got him for alleged 2.25m and we are selling for 2.2m. I do however think the overall price will be a lot less than this. We will also have to wait and see if this makes any other teams like Swansea and Wolves also now make their moves but I did say that with Nicky not playing in the last game that likely meant a club had come in as if the manager was going to drop him because of form he would have done that ages ago.
Thanks and good bye,we move on. I just hope this goes through, bad apples can cause major problems in a team environment.
i think wigan will go down if he signs or dont sign. i cant see him being their saviour. i think this will be a bad move for him. im suprised its for as much as £2.2 million though. fair shout if you get as much as that
worth more but wont get more due to the contract problem, but i agree hes joining the titanic its going down no matter what he does
not saying he aint worth more. im saying im suprised you will get as much as £2.2 million due to his contract problem
Yes I expect to see him next year. Because of the way he has handled this situation, I reckon his karma will see him back here. Wigan are the kind of club who, much like City once did, might well plummet if they get relegated from the Prem, ergo Maynard might well be lighting up Div 1 in a couple of years, while City.........well we like to dream and the dream has come a shade closer with McInnes
I don't believe any of that will come to pass. Teams only plummet these days if they're facing financial hardship, and even that might not be a cast-iron guarantee for failure. Portsmouth are doing... relatively fine despite the ever present threat that looms over them. Wigan seem a sensibly run club when frankly everything indicates they shouldn't be. Martinez has done a miraculous job to keep them up, and if they stick with him I can see Wigan staying in the Prem or close to it (Championship challenger) for years to come yet. And with new motivation, I reckon Maynard might do well. Not pull up any trees, but not every striker can do a Demba Ba.
