WEST BROM boss Roy Hodgson has defended James Morrison after the midfielder made a gesture to fans in the 2-1 victory at Stoke.

Morrison struck the opener in the 35th minute at the Britannia Stadium with a 30-yarder that left Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen red-faced.

Morrison, who also struck the woodwork twice, then wheeled away in celebration towards the Stoke fans in the Seddon Stand, initially with his arms outstretched.

But he then placed his left hand on his right upper arm and delivered a fist-pump gesture (pictured, right).

When asked about the incident after the game, Hodgson said: "Did he do that?

    "Blimey. You guys see everything.

"That gesture could be interpreted in a thousand ways.

"In the Premier League there is so much good you can talk about, so many interesting things to say and do, so to start looking for imaginary gestures, for me that saddens me.

"I hope he didn't do a gesture. If he did, I'm sure he'll apologise for it.

"But he's not that type of guy. I guess it was just a way of showing a celebration, but I didn't see it, and what's more I don't want to."

I didn't see that either to be honest. A little foolish of the guy if truth be told. I saw Foster's deliberate goading of the Boothen when they scored their 2nd and that pissed me off good and proper.

Especially as he once was a Stoke player! Keane at Wolves yesterday had more dignity in his goal celebrations!

Keane has a great record against Wolves. He always seems to score when he plays them, and has never celebrated when he's scored against them.

Did not see Morrison do anything myself.

But, a pity about Foster and to think we gave the lad a great ovation before 2nd half. It hacked me off no end. No need to do that imo. He didn't even have the balls to applaud us when we all cheered him either. So Sgt, you are not alone... what some of the fans around me said is well..............

Unreapeatable. Cudos to Robbie Keane too, he showed class by not celebrating that much.

The only investigation that's needed his from PC into why Pulis has blown £90 million and nobody can pass a ball, to their own side, for the past few seasons.

Not exactly Jose, I have stopped the over the top stuff though.
I honestly think that us Stokies are entitled to just a little bit more football than we are getting, do you honestly think that you are getting your money's worth??

I know that is your decision, but I'm damned if I would go week in week out (if I physically could) in the wind and cold to watch Stoke play (mostly) like that, come to that, I wouldn't even go in the sunshine!

My football team play better football than Stoke, not hard to pass it to another player.

So do I, I've always said the football could and should be better but, as long as results are OK, I'll put up with it. How long that will last, I don't know.
