Yes we were very very poor tonight and were outplayed by a very up for it Leicester team who were first to every ball. That said it's just one game and we will have Ricky back next week and maybe Lee. Lets not get too despondent we are still 2nd and if we beat Cardiff next week that will give us some breathing space. Let's not over-react. Keep the faith!
We were lucky it was Leicester we played and not Cardiff. Cardiff would have tore us a new one tonight.
I didnt go but did they close us down well? I've been convinced thats that the way to play against us sitting back is the worst thing a team can do against us, we need to make plans for when this happends, i'm sure nige is on the case!
we do not play with fancy diamond formations. second half showed we are better 442. the foxes showed more commitment and hunger but we are a toothless monster without lambert and lallana (not so fonte as I think martin has been playing well) but now very concerned with jos.everyone is entitled to a bad day at the office, but lets hope we get back on track soon
I think tonight has proved that our strength in depth is seriously lacking what with jos picking up an injury tonight we may be in trouble. in NA/NC we trust but surely we need to strengthen and quickly
Cork can play at centre back if we have no other options. We had too many square pegs in round holes tonight. Trouble is, not sure all of them were out of necessity. Adkins can't tinker and I hope he wont' any more.
Agree with the sentiment of the thread. However, been a fan for 45+ years and would at least rate myself as someone with a small amount of football knowledge - but obviously need help after tonight. So, some basic questions: 1. What formation did we start with? 2. Did we change the formation when we realised after 5 mins that we had lost the midfield? 3. What was the formation at the end of the game? 4. What were our tactics in terms of playing on weaknesses in the opposition? 5. When those tactics did not work - what did we do to change the strategy? For a few weeks now the opposition has worked out how to close down our midfield and stifle our game - what was the Plan B tonight? Really interested to know what you all think? I offer no criticism - but really interested about what you all think!
As far as i could tell...... 1. 4-5-1 - get ball and hoof up to guly who loses it 2. 4-5-1 - get ball and hoof up to guly who loses it 3. 4-4-2 - get ball and hoof up to guly or de ridder who lose it 4. 4-5-1 - get ball and hoof up to guly who loses it 5. 4-5-1 - get ball and hoof up to guly who loses it
CBK - That is the response that worries me - you have always been IMHO the voice of reason on this web site - I was really hoping to get shot down with my post. Pearson truely screwed Adkins tonight and NA did not have a clue about how to deal with it....Leicester had a good game plan - they executed it, they were motivated and we... and we... end of sentence...lost for words.
As a Pompey fan although I'm in no position to gloat I do find it amusing how confident u lot were on Saturday
It was an awful performance today but I think people need to stop being so pessimistic. Every team has bad games and with Lambert, Lallana, Fonte and Chaplow out and Richardson not starting it was always going to be a struggle. If we win next week against cardiff we will be 4 points clear of 3rd place and all the optimisim will be back.
