http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...tml?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter I'll copy the article for anyone who cant view it. Disappointed by this, in my view he either needs to man up and perform without being scared, or not play at all. Didn't see the game against Everton very well due to a dire stream and depressingly missing MOTD, but from what I heard he was bottling it in the air. We cant afford players not going in 100% for every challenge. Rather start Best & Ranger until he gets rid of the mask if he's going to be a pussy. C'mon Shola, sort it out lad.
SHOLA AMEOBI reckons he is putting his career on the line by becoming Toon's man in the mask. The Newcastle striker made his comeback in Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Everton wearing a face guard to protect his broken cheekbone. Ameobi said: "I know I've taken a big risk because the surgeon has told me if it does go again he won't operate because it would be too dangerous. "The mask is made of the material they use in bullet-proof glass and it's see-through so aesthetically it's not too bad. "It is moulded to my face, but when you do move around and sweat that creates a bit of movement that ideally you wouldn't want." Ameobi added: "Having something on your face you're not used to is strange. It's not so much the fact it's there, it's making sure you don't think about it and just get on with it. "Any little thing that distracts you like that will put you off your game, and it's trying to get over that mental hurdle and just dealing with it."
It shows how desperate we are when we are playing someone who has lost his peripheral vision and is afraid to go up for headers. That is no good at all at this level. Best to wait until he has fully recovered.
He should be talking to Pardew and if he is doubtful about playing ask to be dropped until fully fit, he can still train and maintain fitness in the meantime, I don't understand players need to dribble on to the media about issues that should be explored with the club first. I would have more respect for Ameobi if he said that for the sake of the club he was withdrawing from playing until fully fit as he could not give his all with his current worries about the potential for further injury.
If he can't play to his full ability (and I use that word very very lightly) he shouldn't be on the pitch. Part of his game is aerial and making those challenges for the ball in the air, so thinking "oh if I get cracked now they won't be able to fix it ever again" isn't exactly gonna make him give 110% every time the balls played to him. As usual, the guy is a liability to the team. Can't fault your heart to wanna play, but part of me has to question whether or not Shola actually rushed himself back and is taking these risks out of pure fear that if he didn't hurry back he would end up forgotten and down the pecking order as the summer and expected transfers loom.
I hear he's also scared of the dark . . . . . . . and spiders. It may be bullet proof but is it Rooney elbow proof? Or Shawcross proof would be more of a concern. Maybe we could get Saylor one, he goes down like he's been shot when he handles the ball.
please log in to view this image We all know he would jump at the chance to put these on for the game agaisnt Stoke..
Tough! We have another striker outperforming him, and we're looking to buy players better than him. He was good in the CCC, sell him to a struggling club in that league and he'll be their messiah.
Stop moaning and get on with it Shola. Would rather start Ranger, but it seems Pardew hates him for some reason.
We shouldn't rush him if he's not going to be able to fully perform with it, especially with Stoke next game, can't be going in half-hearted there.
