There are presently a lot of small teams on Serie A, such as Novara, Chievo and Siena with a population of just 50,000, whereas big teams like Samp and Torino are in Serie B. It's like when Wimbledon were in the top flight and Blackpool last season. But yes, undoubtedly the availability of tv live viewing doesnt help but as I said, it's mainly for the 11million registered Juve fans around the peninsula.
The reason the European Law preventing all games being shown at 3pm is to 'protect the lesser clubs' and their respective attendances. When you look at clubs like Blackburn, Bolton and Wigan not filling their stadiums already, can you imagine the attendance if they could just stay home and watch it instead, particularly as it will be cheaper. THe smaller clubs to an extent will be happy with the exclusivity of only being able to see the team is in person as it increases money on gate sales for them. Regarding Serie A, they don't play any games at 3pm on Saturday hence all being able to be shown on Tv which is ultimately down to their FA. At least we aren't in the same mess as La Liga where each club sells their own Tv rights, whereas the Premier League sell ours in a bundle, as the lesser clubs struggle to sell their rights as everybody obviously wants only the Barcelona or Real Madrid Tv rights.
11 million Juve fans and they get attendances of less than 20k. Just shows that big clubs don't necessarily get big attendances.
I watch Serie A (I get access to all the games) and the stadiums look empty for most teams, Juve do seem to fill their ground more then most.
As I said, they are really badly supported in Turin. There has actually been a big movement recently to try and get them to relocate to another city, such as nearer Milan where they have a huge fan base. And I dont think they get fewer than 20k in the new stadium. Are you sure you arent using attendances from the Stadio Olympico where they played for the last few seasons and capacity was only 22k?
