Its very ironic that it ended up being King that effectively caused his personal 15 match unbeaten record to come to an end. I'm glad no one is attacking King for the defeat and I'm also glad that the majority of Spurs fans do not blame Defoe for the miss. One could argue he should have ran faster prior to Bale crossing it in, but Bale should have played it in earlier. The first half was two sides cancelling each other out. For all the attacking intent they both had, nothing major materialised. It took very poor defending to bring the game to life and 2-2 draw would have been a fair outcome; one that would have pleased Spurs more than City. I didn't even see the incident with Balotelli until they highlighted it post-game, but its clearly done intentionally. Souness is no physicist, but even he can understand the basic laws of physics. Had Balotelli been natural in his little spin, his right leg would have gone over his left leg, yet it somehow moved back. The decision to award the penalty was correct; it was clear as day. To the half wit that claimed that Spurs fans always find excuses for dropping points, I challenge you to find a single post here that complained about the United, City Newcastle and Swansea results. Spurs were poor during the first two, and the latter two deserved their respective point. The defeat to Stoke deserved complaint, the draw to Wolves involved at least 2 poor refereeing decisions and the result now involved 2 controversial (lack of) decisions. No one disputes the penalty though. I think I'd have rather Spurs folded at 2-0 than to lose like this. I know that so many positives can be taken from this game, but it just left this huge pit in my stomach. Shame.....
A great game of football. I watched it with no commentary (I often turn the sound off). A deffo penalty at the end so we cant complain at that. We could argue that Balliotelli should have been sent off but he was off balance and had to put his foot somewhere, Webb gave him the benifit of the doubt, other rererees wouldnt have done. It was great to see the two best sides in the Prem having a go at each other. As the great man said, it's better to fail aiming high. A shame, a draw would have been a fairer result but good luck to Citeh, I am still proud to be a Spurs fan, the difference between the two sides was Lescott on his backside, not much really.
Agreed PNP, but both you and I and most importantly a Mr H Webb all thought at the time give him the benifit of the doubt.. I now expect a retrospective red card.
We were a quality striker away from a comfortable win today (as comfortable as coming back from 2-0 can be) and I am not digging out Defoe, who as usual did what he does. Another striker, either withdrawn or in tandem would have pulled what was really a pretty average back CB pairing all over the place. VDV had neither the pace nor endurance for today and was too deep too often. To be fair second half we were pretty damn good. If we play like that against the goons and the mickeys we will batter them. As for the antics of Ballotelli and old teflon head, they didn't help, but we had more than enough for a win today so no excuses.
Webb didn't even see it, Deedub. No decision was necessary from him, as he wasn't aware that anything had happened. I'm not annoyed that he's cost us again, so much as his selection for the game in the first place. Perhaps Redknapp needs to slaughter him publicly, a la Ferguson?
How could he not have seen it PnP?, he was no more than 10yards away looking straight at it, he must have given him the benifit of the doubt
We wasn't looking at it, he was looking at the ball at the time of the stamp, and just turns in time to see Balotelli falling over
Oh well, Howard Webb f*^ks Tottenham again. Whats new? Let's see what that the FA have to say. Hopefully Arry will have something to say about it.
LDL...it wasnt particularly technically great but was exciting and full of drama...i think thats why some have called it great. I think there are so many positives for us...think the players did us proud overall...coys
Inconsistent refereeing is pervasive...... Song led with his forearm against Rooney, the ref saw it, told him that is what he had done, but didn't card him. As I recall Defoe was sent off (straight red) for something very similar last year!!
On the plus side, the Chavs have Swansea away 3 days after QPR away in the FA Cup, followed by Man Utd at stamford bridge. Cannot fathom them not dropping some points from those games. Arsenal will remain 10 points behind us after today (they're being utterly battered atm by united.), and then face a resurgent Bolton away 3 days after a tricky FA cup tie against Villa (Keano for a hat-trick!). We, on the other hand, have Wigan at home, then Loserpool away (I think we need just the one goal in order to win at Anfield.) My prediction? (not that anyone cares) Next 2 games: Chelsea: 2 points Arsenal: 1 point Spurs: 4 points (and that's being VERY pessimistic!) Things could look much more secure in 2 weeks' time. Chins up lads, Spurs of 3/4 years ago would've folded at 2-0 and left with egg on their faces. COYS
