Stats are a funny thing 60+% of the possesion but less than 50% territory, so basically Swansea sat and passed it about at the back couldn't get forward enough and got stung by two top notch goals. So didn't deserve sweet **** all.

I've got to go with the line that the Swansea game was the most mind bogglingly boring one that I have seen in a long time..Passing the ball about to each other at the back and going nowhere with it does not make for an exciting game of football. Thank goodness for the two excellent goals by Sunderland to combat this boring dross dished up Swansea.

In fairness, I think only one person has said you were dirty and he's been criticised by fellow Swans fans for his views, so there's no need for people to stoop to name calling. Most people appreciate O'Neill got his tactics spot on, and as has been said, there's only one statistic that counts, and that's goals, so however you played you deserved the three points.

There's been some good debate up until now, be a shame to have to close a match thread for the first time all season!

This name calling is all very silly.

But you were playing "in packs" and "hunting for the ball" ? ? 36% possession on your own patch says you weren't very good at it. <laugh>

I can understand you lot being bored though. Watching your team being played off the park by a team that cost a fraction to assemble must be annoying. That's why the crowd were screaming at your players to try and get the ball - which they couldn't. Your players were second best and chasing shadows most of the game.

I've given Sunderland enormous credit for the two excellent goals so I don't know what else you're looking for. I don't rate the Mackems and from what I saw yesterday my opinion hasn't changed. Your ace in the hole is MON who is, as always, getting the best out of his team.

On the two footed debate, which for me isn't an issue, but a reckless challenge, whether one OR two footed - even if the player wins the ball - is a red card. I'm not bleating about it but there you go.

Good luck for the rest of the season. <ok>

You will win Jack **** by pasing the ball around at the back...As has been stated earlier, territorial advantage is probably a better marker, and of course goals..ie: 2-0..<ok>

I said for the first 15 mins we played like that until we got our goal and lost our striker(replaced with an unfit kid)..dont give me that played of the park rubbish..we simply let you play your natural game of who can create th nicest triangle in the midfield and in your own half ........you were rubish in the final third and if you dont realise this the you are a fool!

Im going to address the points you made that I highlighted in bold.

1. We did not hunt in packs. We LET you keep possession in your half and in the middle of the park. You had ONE good chance. It's called tactics O'Neill knew that if we stopped your wingers (which we did) you'd be toothless (which you were) tactical win for us. Possession means **** all.

2. Nobody is bored here <doh> and I don't see why you think passing the ball around in meaningless areas is exciting?! Your team was was cheap. Great. But you didn't out play us, as I've already stated your domination of possession was due to you passing around defence etc. YOU DID NOT PLAY US OFF THE PARK.

3. We were not second best and we were not chasing shadows. You were stopped everytime you came near to our penalty area.

4. Nothing.

5. Let's judge by the table at the end of the season. You'll definitely stay up, but we'll be above you <ok>

Good luck.

Well, I'm no fool. We were poor in the final third for sure. Haven't said otherwise.

I shall respond:

1: One of your posters mentioned "packs" and "hunting for the ball". Don't you understand quotation marks? <doh>
2: One of your own posters (I think 2 or 3 actually) mentioned being "bored".
3: We agree to disagree. You actually got near our penalty are even less. The 2 excellent goals meant you didn't have to.
4: Good.
5: Probably.

<ok>

God can somebody close this thread, us Sunderland fans will enjoy our hoof ball, thug tactics football and the experienced Barca like Swansea fans can go teach premiership to the masses after their half season of experience. Good luck for the season.

1. So what if someone said that? We didn't hunt in packs.
2. I'm pretty sure no one said that. I for one am not bored
3. We got the early goal which meant we didn't need to. You weren't ever going to score.

I do not believe this beautiful game myth of just passing nice; it is not an effective way to play the game and will be the downfall of many a club.
Arsenal have never succeeded in the way they’re playing now, when they won the league they passed the ball very nicely but had players like Adams, Vieira who could nock a player of the ball press, put a tackle in and arsenal no longer have that.
Have people watched Barcelona Play there effective because they have great vision and pass superbly around the pitch but they also have more in the locker and when they lose the ball Barcelona play ruff and strong to win it back always pressing and actually a little dirty always kicking at the heels of the opposite team.
Just passing is not the beautiful game, the beautiful game is football and passing is just apart of it.

Well I for one after the Jacks performance and result against the Gooners had been looking forward to the game yesterday. We were not very good but won easily, the Swansea were boring and just passed the ball around at the back as if they were satisfied just to keep the score down. Their fans then come on saying how great they were 'played us off the park' and all that, a bigger of deluded plonkers I have not come across. Last season most neutrals wanted Blackpool to stay up, the I could not care less what happened to Swansea, Barcarole lite they are not!

I think yesterday was a bit like playing in the FA cup, when you have to play some conference team, get kicked off the pitch and end up losing. At least we wont be facing these aggressive hoofball teams every week , and when it comes to quality teams like Arsenal and Newcastle, we can compete on a fair play level.

I've given Sunderland credit where it was due but you Sunderland fans who keep bleating, and it is bleating (we should know ) that you didn't play well but still won, are missing the point. The point? You weren't ALLOWED to play well because for two thirds of the game you didn't have the ball!!!! On your OWN patch!

Please don't persist with the delusion that you chose to sit back and absorb pressure, because the many thousands of people who watched the game live, will give the lie to that including the neutral commentators on the coverage that I watched. Did Sunderland sit back? Did they hell!! They were FORCED back. Did they try and win the ball? Oh, yes, they did - unsuccessfully for most of the game.

As for Mr White's (and others) comments about us winning bog all by passing it around at the back, think on, pal. You've only just gone above us in the table with a team that cost far more than ours did - in fact, I believe that just one of your players cost more than our entire team! Further, we are in our first season at this level and getting to grips with things, including trying out two new midfielders in this game, who have not gelled into our system yet. We aren't doing too badly all things considered.

We like our football at The Liberty and we like it played the right way - passing and movement. That doesn't make any other way wrong, it's just wrong for us and our footballing philosophy. I say "our" because I include the fans in that - we just wouldn't tolerate our team playing the game any other way.

It means that we will lose games, like yesterday, but we are learning all the time and doing quite nicely at the moment. One thing is certain. When we have the sort of money to spend that other established PL teams enjoy, and we are able to buy in more quality players to integrate with what we've got, you will see a real football team.
