I nominate Nick Barmby. He obviously said the right things at half time and his substitutions and formation changes were very effective(not for the first time). Other than the Burnley game, he's made good selections, good substitutions and good tactical changes. He seems to have a complete grasp of this management lark already, though we need to be coming on stronger at the start of games, we been poor in the first half in two games running now.
Cant help but think we've struck gold with Hobbs and chester. Individually outstanding, as a pair even better. And yeah, what he said about barmby too.
Dawson for me, they were targeting him with pace and he was struggling to keep up but his positional sense and timing of challenges was brilliant and he got all his tackles spot on.
Very very harsh yellow though, the reading player just jumped over him very softly and it's not like it was a hard or mistimed tackle. He hadn't even been shirt tugging or commited a single foul prior to it either so that was a bad decision for me.
Excellent honest appraisal from Nick after the game... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16668004.stm?
After watching the FLS I'd give MOTM to Readings manager for not explaining the offside rule to his defence
it is a poor excuse, but i genuinley dont think the wind helped in the 1st half, you could see mannones kicks coming back at him. fryatt made a difference for me, the ball stuck up top a bit more when he came on... probably chester motm , made some crucial clearances. or rosenoir just for him running right over to celebrate in front of the reading fans whod give him stick..
If we were playing volleyball I'd say McKenna deserves man of the match, he was ok off the ball, but on it was useless, kept gifting them possession with a thoughtless mindless hoof as high as he could into the air when a simple pass was clearly open to him and we could have kept possession. McKenna frustrates me like **** sometimes!
Nick seems to be spot on with his understanding of football. I mentioned that he talked sense soon after he was made caretaker manager and somebody said they don't care how well he talks it's how well we do on the pitch. I am certain that Nick's understanding of the game translates to our performances on the pitch. I like how straightforward he is. Last week Burnsey asked a question that could have been taken a few different ways. Nick said: "What do you mean?" That's much better than most managers who would have pretended to understand the question.
Dawson and Rosenior, in fact the whole defence were superb...difficult call, but for me Rosenior shades it given the abuse he got. Loved the way he celebrated the goal. Good to see Fryatt come on and McClean was immense.
Yeah I remember that well, it was in response to Burnsie using the 'get out of jail' cliche, Nick asked 'what do you mean? Burnsie almost fcuked up this week as well when he said to NB during the post match interview 'I don't have a clue either......', he almost bit his tongue off stating that he wasn't implying that Nick didn't have a clue, cringworthy back tracking followed by Burnsie. It all goes to show that you don't need to be a retarded NP media type to keep Burnsie on his toes
Hobbs by street mile. It was pleasing yesterday that realising that plan A wasn't working, Nick was happy to resort to a more 'convensional' and more effective plan B with Koren left midfield. I was beginning to wonder?
i didn't particularly notice Rosenior's celebration. I was too busy watching Brady heading the cornerflag in front of us. Where did the Rosenior celebrations take place and what happened specifically?
