Hello everyone, the total is now £1001.01.

After talking it over with Billy he feels like its time for him to move on so the threads will take a step back at the end of the month, maybe its time for us all to move on.

I'm not closing the thread or indeed the donation page, just not bumping it anymore so it will slowly drift off but we there for the future, GNR and the like.

I cant begin to say how proud I am of our community and how everyone has joined in to push this cause. It all started by the saddness we all shared with Billy and his loss and I think it brought home to us just how fragile life is and how quickly it can be taken away.

The hard line between the mackems and mags seem to have softened, still there under the surface, both sides still ready to do battle and long may it continue but maybe a realisation that football really is just a game.

For all the cash, comments and compassion a very big thank you and lets see how far we can go in the remander of January.

Well done to all. I made my donation as promised as I lost both my parents to the big C.

I hope this is a genuine collection for Cancer Research and not just a crafty ploy to get money off us Mags to buy a player for Sunderland.

Top effort by all involved! For all that this is only a forum and football is only a game (and a gentleman's game played by thugs apparently) it just show what a great thing it can be when it brings so many together and can produce moments like this!

Fantastic effort guys. I've not donated because I'm a very poor student right now, but have donated loads to Cancer charities before, as my Grandad died from 'the big C' (big up MacMillan, who made my Grandad very happy in his final weeks).

To paraphrase what I said a few weeks ago it's grand that we reached a grand. Well done to all the supporters of our north east clubs and also, let's not forget, the supporters of other clubs up and down the country who helped swell the fund.

    Incredible effort.

I haven't donated, and I am ashamed to say this, but I will come months end.

    Wonderful people, all of you.

Hugely impressed by the efforts by all, nice to see the camaraderie between the team's supporters when it comes to real life matters outside of football. Fantastic effort.

My sentiments exactly...Nowt wrong with having slanging matches over football, but when it comes to things such as this our differences are forgotten...
