http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16646855.stm Taye Taiwo has vowed to make a quick impact at Queens Park Rangers when his move from AC Milan is completed. The Nigeria defender claims a six-month loan deal has been agreed between the clubs, while Rangers say the transfer is "very close". "I'm happy with the opportunity to play at QPR," Taiwo told BBC Sport. "I don't know if there are professional footballers who just love to pick up monthly salary by sitting on the bench. I'm not in that category." The 26-year-old has started only seven games since moving from Marseille to Inter Milan last summer. "I need to settle down quickly and adapt to the rhythm that comes with playing in England," he said. "I know only hard work, good performance, dedication, and passion will connect me with the fans but I'm prepared. WHO IS TAYE TAIWO? "I'm looking forward to what lies ahead and I'm prepared to give my all to the QPR cause. "It is not how long you stay at a club but the positive impact you make and I hope to bring all the positivity as a professional footballer." Taiwo was linked with a January move to Arsenal but now appears almost certain to join QPR, subject to a work permit. He was pictured with manager Mark Hughes on Twitter on Thursday, and QPR confirmed they are "waiting for everything to be put into place before we make an official announcement". Club captain Joey Barton welcomed Taiwo's arrival on the social networking site: "Was very good when I seen him for Marseille. "Good news. First of many, fingers crossed." QPR manager Mark Hughes revealed on Thursday that there are "still conversations going on" with Chelsea defender Alex. The Brazilian, 29, has been told he has no future at Stamford Bridge after handing in a transfer request. Rangers sources said on Saturday that a deal had been agreed after an improved bid, but Hughes refused to confirm or deny reports. Meanwhile, QPR are still waiting for a work permit work permit for Brazilian striker Henrique, who has agreed to sign from Sao Paulo. ************************************************************************************************ Hopefully the first of many... Im happy with the players due to come in so far, just dont spoil it by getting zamora or johnson. we still need a quality forward but FFS not them.
Sounds promising, and a great attitude to start. Looking forward to seeing him in action. If we do get Alex and Onouha as well as Taiwo, what would the back line look like?
Id drop young, play Onhoua on the right and play Ferdinand in the middle. Still both of the back 4s there are very strong.
I think I'd drop the Alex transfer, Taiwo will add the spice with free kicks and I believe the deal with Alex might be stalling over wages. With a back four of Young, Ferdinand, Onhoua and Taiwo it would free up Traore to play left Midfield with the option of him backing up the defence as and when as his fitness is very good.
It's difficult, because I still think Ferdinand can do a job for us at the back. But if these three deals go ahead, theres no choice but to drop Ferdinand from the middle to the bench, no point in signing a player to sit on the bench. Gabby is gone for sure, shame as he got the winner, but at least he can go out with a bang! Who would have though last year Anton Ferdinand wouldn't be good enough for the first team. Hopefully they all go ahead problem free...
He certainly makes all the right noises, very exciting signing indeed. Interesting that some QPR sources claim that Alex deal agreed.
I reckon Gabbidon is as least as good as Ferdinand, and think will be a better bet to play alongside a big CB like Samba or Alex. Gabi is quick and wins a lot of tackles, and should play well with a big CB who is strong in the air. We will often need more speed in our central defense, than Samba, Alex and Ferdinand provide.
Let me just clear things up. Although I personally like Gabbidon, I dont think he's as bad as some people make out, there is no way on earth that he is better than Anton.
Gabbidon is nearly as bad as Hall, Hes gone in the summer. Gabbidon only plays well when hes alongside Ferdinand and thats not a coincidence, put him alongside Hall or Connolly and its pure comedy defending.
Gabbidon better than Ferdinand????? Funny how you can see things on the field so differently. IMO Ferdinand has been played very well (dont count Fulham match) and is our most realiable defender. Anton keeps his standard 9 times out of 10 but in Gabbidons case the ratio is 5/10.
Isn't this why we're on here, to discuss difference of opinions. Flyer, Hall was better than Ferdinand on saturday and also a player that attracts way to much stick from the Rangers faithfull imo. Agree Anton/Gabbs have different strenghts and they're both the best we've had in these positions for 15 years. Gabbidon rarely looses his cool (Bolton an exception) and his pace and composure are his greatest strenghts. With Anton I'm just not convinced, his display against MK Dons was dreadful and he was run ragged and often drawn out of position against League one strikers in Ibehre and McDonald.
Hall is usually at fault for a goal a game but Ill be happy if he keeps up this play until he gets injured. You are the only person I know who rates Gabbidon. He will be lucky to make the bench after the window closes and he will not be here next season but Ferdinand will.
