The Shrews entertain top-of-the pile Sarfend this weekend, with a view to winning. Or drawing. Or losing respectably by one goal. Whatever. The side who look like Bordeaux have been excellent this season, and when we went there it was probably our worst performance of the season. Their away record has been excellent this year (much like ours from last season, but better) and we all know how good we are at home - it's coming up to a year since Bury humbled us 3-0. They went away to Northampton and scored 5. Only 5, bloody lightweights. In my eyes though, despite that disappointing result, I make them and Swindon two of the three automatic spots, with us, Crawley and Cheltenham fighting it out for the third. Not necessarily third place, mind. Anyway... Sarfend: Recent league form: LLWDWW Top Scorers: Dickinson (11), Hall (10), Phillips (9) Last Meeting: Sarfend 3-0 Shrewsbury (Dickinson [pen], Phillips, Harris [pen]) I swear it was 4-0, and the BBC's reports conflict - one says 2-0 and the other 3-0. He wishes to play for Papua New Guinea due to his love of their folk music. Maybe I shouldn't use (the presently blacked-out) Wikipedia so much... Lenny's Prediction: Shrewsbury 1-1 Sarfend, Attendance 5,423 (Richards)
Nice write up Lenny. Just had visions of Chuck Norris knocking people for six in order for his missus to fix them back up again!! Interesting to note that when we played Swindon no-one would have thought to consider them for an auto spot, yet Paul O'Canio has kicked some butt to get them there.
I remember talking to a mate about how unrealistic FM12 was since Swindon were top. How times have changed, eh?!
with rooney aboard and now constable, i fear de canio's swindon town are the main event this season, we could play a supporting role but need 2 of 4 lemons up front to provide some zest. there is either a joke or a pun there somewhere!!
Must win game for Shrewsbury. "Last chance saloon" for automatic promotion Shrewsbury 0 Southend 2 (Dickinson, Hall) Attendance-5680
Matster, I rated Swindon when they played us as I thought they were the only side all season who dominated us at home for a half and could have beaten us - Cheltenham are the real surprise package this season. As for the Southend game its another must win one for us - I predict the magnificent duo of Sharps and Cansdell-Sheriff will shut out their aerial barrage and Morgan will break his home goal drought with a late winner - 1-0 to town and the Salop contingent from the 6100 crowd will go home still dreaming of automatic promotion.
I can remember being worried about Swindon before the first match and was glad to come out with the result we got, I just thought they would have been the team at the top from the start as they, Bristol and Northampton spent a lot on players in the summer.
Will this be a high scoring game? No doubt, but will it be in favour of Town? Doubt not! Let's hope that my highly optimistic prediction of 3-2 to town will be the final result. Morgan, Collins, Wright. Att 5555 Let's hope Sheriff and Sharps have got their heading hats on to deflect the aerial bombardment that will start at 3pm COYBS!!!!
Probably the most important game of the season for us, so far. I only hope the home advantage sneaks it for us..
paulo de canio has christened his swindon squad a bunch of rottweilers. well give them 2 lamposts and they won't have a leg to stand on! todays game is towns most important game of the season we need a win. floreat salopia!
slim chance of our marv scoring. is this his second red card this season.? what is he good at,? he has not scored for months and now he has forced his 10 team mates to keep southend at bay for 65 mins. our marv is a late striker, he has ceased to be. at least he will have practice selling pies for 3 weeks. time will tell if our marv is any good at that. does the transfer list beckon graham? sorry to be a bit brutal, but town cannot carry passengers, let alone pie sellers
Morgan sent off, was at least a yellow. The first half of game has been fantastic though. Really entertaining and shrewsbury, even with ten men looked better team. COYBs!
a great win by 10 man shrews and 10 mins of injury time, thank goodness we do not play this bunch of cloggers very often, fouls, shrews 2 sarfend 11, and apart from swindon results elsewhere went well
