NB obviously is happy working with what we've got. Hopefully Josh King will give us that something extra that FC did in 07/08
I really don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. There aren't that many players about who can add much to the existing squad without costing an inflated price. I know that some see lack of expensive signings as evidence of "tight fistedness" but there is little point in spending money just for the sake of it - I'm looking forwards to seeing how some of our unfulfilled talents step upto the mark in the second half of the season.
he doesnt say that in the interview he just says he is happy with what he has got still think 1 or maybe 2 signings will come in
Unless he finds something that can improve what he has already got. So its not quite that set in stone as of yet.
Yep, agreed. If nothing else, I would really like to see some CB cover arrive before the end of the window
Nicks already said we are well covered there. But if the need arose there is always the emergency loan window which opens in Feb.
all i can say is bollocks ! if barmby thinks our current strike force will get city promoted he's having a laugh.
One of Chester or Hobbs injured, not good but Cooper will do a good job. Both Chester and Hobbs injured, oh ****. I just really think our squad looks short. This was really evident to everyone only a few weeks or so ago. So we get some loan players back, who are in the main mediocre, a few injured players return and add a couple of additions. Now we have people saying how strong the squad is. Just my opinion, but a couple of injuries to key players and we'd look short again.
Clearly hullborn your knowledge of the City squad and promotion credentials is far superior to Barmby's! We've kept all our best players and we're in 6th, all we needed was a couple of additions. Mannone will make our already solid back 5 even stronger and King's pace will give us a new outlet. I'm not saying we will go up but I'm happy to see us operate like this rather than panic and spend £3 million on a striker who turns out to be nothing better than what we have.
its not about panic buying, its about accepting that we need a better striker than what we have IF we want to get back to the prem.
I agree we need a goalscorer, but then I also think if Fryatt can get back among the goals he can be the one to fire us to promotion. I could be wrong, but from what I know of Josh King, he isn't a goalscorer. He's like a mixture of McLean and Stewart; he's tricky, he's lightning quick and he works hard. He does score the odd goal, granted. I'm not saying we should splash out millions, but it is certainly an area which we are lacking, you only need to look at results this season to see we are short in the goals department. Having said that, could Koren become the new Elliott and score us 20 from midfield? No, me neither, but I have money on him finishing top goalscorer this season.
I think they've jumped to conclusions with that headline. Based on the quotes I fail to see how you could be confident that that is what he was saying. It's a possibility of course, but it's far from set in stone.
i dont know how it works but i think loans are still possible for 2 months after the end of window. Maybe the club have also been forced to sweeten the contracts of one or two sought after players, or indeed perhaps Bullard took the kitty after this infamous hearing?
It's a fair point, I'd offer Chester, Evans and Stewart better terms now we know they are established first team players. Koren I think is the highest paid player brought in since the PL years, so I doubt they'd offer him much more than he is already on. The loan window will be interesting, we will have to see where we are on the 8th of February. Also, we have Doncaster on deadline day, which could mean that Billy Sharp will not be playing against us.
Can we all agree that people are allowed to disagree with NB on the strength of the squad and whether we need a few more players without being labelled as either fools or somehow disloyal? I would like to see King in action before I'm sure but in my humble opinion we have needed a big / aggressive /mobile striker to complement our other forwards since we lost Marlon King. Cooper looks better than McShane as defensive back-up, but I would also prefer to see someone with a bit more experience on the bench.
