In reference to Febbos's post about Hull City all time XI thought i'd start this, Oliver Kahn Cafu Paolo Maldini Fabio Canavarro Roberto Carlos Christiano Ronaldo Zidane Xavi Leo Messi Ronaldo Dennis Bergkamp
All time World XI? That is more like a last 15-20 years team. I assume you haven't watched football for that long. Otherwise you'd consider Pele, Garrinchia, Lev Yashin, George Best, Bobby Moore Duncan Edwards, Tom Finney, Franz Beckenbauer, Puskas, Di Stefano, Johann Cruyff plus countless others. The thought of some of those players in all time team, especially Gazza and Roy Keane is laughable really. It is all a bit pointless as everyone will have different ideas, in many cases founded on the age of the person and who they have actually seen themselves.
Forgot Zidane!!! Also Xavi in my midfield updated it now. And yeah its a team from last 15 years or so, basically players i've seen regularly play, I know theres been a lot more players I could have put but the likes of Moore, Pele, Best etc were before my time.
Kahn Cafu Maldini Moore Carlos Ronaldo Zidane Best Messi Cruyff Maradona Best xi but nowhere near best 11 players. It's very hard to incorporate pele, cruyff, nesta, beckenbaur in one team would be better if there was a year limit...
i was gonna try an XI , but its quite impossible to get the best XI to play together . Ive only seen news reel of the 50s Hungarian team and it may not be able to compete today , but for a few short years it destroyed all in its path and was as influential on the modern game as the great Scottish revolution some 50yrs earlier.
Yashin Cafu Beckenbauer Moore Carlos Cruyff Zidane Platini Messi Pele Maradonna Bench: Banks, Thuram, Okocha (not biased at all ), Eusebio, Ronaldo (fat) Just though I'd have a go. Some players out of position but it's hard to do. Doubt you'd ever meet 2 people who could agree on this topic. Also, there will have been players in like the 30's, 40's etc that people will tell you are better then anyone now. Also there's the argument that older players like Moore wouldn't be able to cope now with the fitness of players these days. And obviously Messi is only 24 so seems rather weird putting him in an all-time XI team! Could 'do a Ronaldinho' and go from being the best player in the world to almost obscurity, although I doubt it. Very hard to do.
Right so if its a team from the last 15 or so years, I'll have my nit pic. Peter Schmeichel was twice the keeper Khan was. Roberto Carlos, one of the most over rated players ever. Even David Beckham beat him for skill once. Bergkamp, Keane and Gazza all quality but nah. Zidane, yes. Romario maybe worth a shout.
Clearly each team will be different depending on how old you are... for me (my generation) it's Van der sar Cafu deboer Maldini Carlos C.Ronaldo Zidane Ronaldinho Messi Ronaldo Bergkamp Bench: Kahn, Vidic, Cantona, Beckham, Shearer, Thuram
Gordon Banks Carlos Alberto, Bobby Moore, Franz Beckenbauer, Roberto Carlos Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini, Bobby Charlton Lionel Messi, Pele, George Best
Might as well have a go. Born 1991 as well, so line-up is based from the mid 90s-Now Schmeichel Cafu, Desailly/Thuram-Cannavaro-Maldini Juninho-Zidane-Vieira-Ronaldinho (In Shape) Ronaldo-Messi
Fat Ronaldo up-front, he was an amazing player. If it wasn't for people like him I wouldn't be a football fan today.
With things like this, I find there are always loads of players who we're 'told' are good but you never actually see them. Usually people in Serie A; the likes of Maldini. Never really saw him play but I accept he was probably good. Even if I focus on players in my generation, it's impossible because so many players play in different leagues and never challenge themseles in England or Spain where they can be properly judged.
Zoff Carlos Alberto, Scirea, Beckenbaur, Maldini Zidane, Socrates, Platini Cruyff Maradona, Pele Bench: Shilton, Hagi, Charlton R. Facchetti, Zico, Ardiles, Moore
