There are many players who spring to mind but from different periods in the clubs history ..... and I can't see any justification in not having a certain Mr Chris Chilton up front in any of the teams mentioned along with Kenneth Wagstaff. But it was a totally different game then and impossible to compare. We also had David Rocastle in our line up god rest his soul but what a player. The list is endless even Billy Bremner and Emlyn Hughes although past his best he settled our defence at the time and I do believe we got promoted that season.
Good call. Waggy and Chillo are mising most teams because the posters didn't see them play. I did my team based on Febbos' time period, even though I was watching the team for about 6 years before then. But there was probably no one else in that period that was worth a place.
Roy Carroll and Fettis were good players from the dark Dolan times, Adam Bolder went to play at a higher level a bit later than that but those were pretty bleak times to be a City fan. When you read some of the complaints on this board sometimes it makes you wonder whether people would moan so much if they were transported back in time to the Dolan era, we've come a long way.
I think Carroll and Fettis (1st time around) were just before my time. I first started watching in 1998 I think (at the grand age of 5), was immediately hooked and have been a pass-holder since. If those players played for us in my time, I wasn't particularly aware of it! My first favourite player was David Brown.
David Brown was a good lower league player, I think he came through Man U's academy if I remember rightly.
Well in my time watching and supporting Hull City my Best ever XI would have to be thus, based on a 4-4-2 Tony Norman Liam Rosinoir John Kaye Michael Turner Richard Jobson Brian Marwood Chris Simpkin** Gary Parker Ian Butler Ken Wagstaff Chris Chilton NB. ** for those who never saw Simpkin play he makes Ian Ashbee look like a whimp. Yes he was that hard. subs: cannot be bothered as my head hurts just picking the above. Hull City are blessed tio have had so many quality players in my time. We have also had more than our fair share of dross. But we wont go there.
My heart rules my head on these things so mine isn't 'best' players but 'favourite' based on my time watching City: Fettis Graham Goodison Whittle Ricketts Barmby Ashbee Whitmore Okocha Windass Darby Bench: Wilson, Turner, Brabin, Brown (Linton), Geovanni, Mann, Elliott Bound to be a 'legend' that I've overlooked!
I agree about Chris Simpkin .... But isn't he in prison now for running a brothel in Bradford or something?
My favorite goalkeeper of all time was IAN MCKECHNIE ....I don't know why but he never seemed to let many in but the fun with the oranges every match. http://www.ambernectar.org/blog/2009/09/the-soul-of-hull-city-part-two/ Near the bottom of the page is the story about the Ian and the Oranges. He was a great keeper and he was responsible for me wanting to be a keeper. Brave man.
Reading these lists is very interesting, its a big shame JJ Okocha was at the end of his career when we had him because in his prime he would be the best player that ever played for us, I put him in my team even though he hardly played. If I was old enough no doubt I'd be picking the likes of Waggy and this Simpkin guy
Maybe I've not read the thread properly but no-one seems to have found a place for Terry Neill in the side? And yes, Cambridge I too remember the oranges. One time someone chucked over an orange the size of a football - everyone, including McKechnie had a laugh at it.

Myhill Rosenior Turner Chester Dawson Stewart Ashbee Koren Elliott King Deano Subs: Mannone, Ricketts, Okocha, Barmby, Campbell
After watching the Chillo and Waggy videos posted by Cambridge Tiger I can safely say that I wish we had two brilliant strikers like that playing for us now.
Yes he is. I prefer to remember him as a footballing hardman Not a sleezy man in a rain coat or something like that.
