It's logically possible but just too far fetched for me like. There are at least three teams (Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal), with squads better in some areas, who will be desperate for that fourth spot. Really desperate.

Our squad is better than Liverpool's in my opinion and we also have a better manager. 6th should be the target and I think it is achievable.

I can't see it happening, but i guess you have to aim high. Be a great story with what's happened to us in recent years.

bags packed! Now... the waiting game

    <whistle>

Even if it does seem unlikely or too soon to suggest, it's nice that we're in a position that people are even talking about it!

If that strike partnership is as mental as people anticipate, then it could well be possible IMO. Easy... no. Likely... maybe not. Most of us haven't even seen them play together yet and no one knows if Cisse will settle in easily. There's always the dreaded fear that we'll get a CB injury too. Also, what if it is a case of the number of goals simply being split between the two?

There are far to many variables to be getting our hopes up just yet and that would be quite a climb. But I have to admit, the fact it is even that close is incredibly exciting and means with proper investment we could even be looking at it next season. (you never know)

Chickens and eggs, but exciting times, no doubt. A far cry from how I felt this time a 2/3 years ago

Agreed. Though the team should actually AIM higher, 6th would be a very good finish to a great season.

For this bloke to say 'is their a better partnership in the league'.......??? What is he mystic meg?!

A thought i've just had, is how long until the media and pundits start taking us seriously as contenders for 6th place? It seems still that they are assuming Liverpool will finish top 6.

    Ah cool <ok>.

I really don't think we have the squad for Champions League. If we manage to hold onto everybody by the end of the summer and have made some important strengthenings then who knows? But this season nah, I'd still be very happy to see us finish 7th and anything more is phenomenal.

Haha. There are 6 teams in the league with better squads than us even with Papiss. I can accept if we fire for the rest of the season we can run those teams close for 5th or 6th spot. But we'd need three teams to have shocking ends to the season for CL football. This seems unlikely given the strength of their squad. Liverpool seem to be taking time to gel and really fire, I think we won't see the best of their undoubtedly talented squad until next season. Of course Gerrard is world class and lifts their game massively but he is one man. I think they are the most vulnerable. After that I'd say Arsenal due to their defensive frailties. Mertesacker needs time to adapt but the PL is a cruel place to learn. Ask Nobby Solano, he looked like he'd never played football for a year and a half. I'd hazard a guess both those will finish above us purely on strength of squad but I do think it is not daft to suggest we can run them close. I just can't see Spurs or Chelsea faltering enough to let us in. They are very very strong sides and I expect Chelsea to improve as the season wears on as they are in a transition period. Despite hating Saggyface I have to say Spurs are a superb side with a cracking squad. The other two aren't even worth discussing they're so far ahead.

Got to aim high. The spuds are considered title challengers and are 4 points off the top so by that reasoning we are challengers for the top 4. IT would be an unbelievable achievment but unlikely

So this sub forum has went from the far end (very pessimistic) to the other side, complete delusion. <laugh>

We will not get in the Champions League, we aren't good enough.

I'm sorry but I think we're all getting to carried away. It's like when we were on our bad run and a load of people on here we so ****ing negative and said they think we'll finish below Sunderland in 11/12th or 10th would be our aim.

    Now it's CL?

    Calm the **** down.

    Seriously guys...

Absolutely nobody in this thread has said we are good enough for CL. Who are you talking to when you say "Calm the **** down, seriously guys..."?

    This.

Getting into the CL would be more about the teams around us royally ****ing everything up for themselves as opposed to us doing well.

We should be aiming for the Champs League because 7th is nailed on and because we have the points, fixtures and team to do it. Also throw in the Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea dodgy results they continue to throw in, its possible.

    Nobody says we actually will.

Are Spurs not aiming for the title?!

People honestly call me Mr Negative? Really?
