''Manchester United striker Michael Owen claims he has not given up on breaking England's goalscoring record - even though he has played just 79 minutes in the Premier League this season.'' - BBC Sport Gossip Column.

Possibly my favorite ever 'story' from the Beeb's gossip column.

He is finished. I hate how he always tweets about Man Utd when they play. He has no involvement at all, he just seems like a normal guy tweeting about a match while acting like a footballer.

Another 39 goals and Owen would be the Premier League's 2nd all time top scorer, had he stayed with us or moved to a club where he could get game time he could have easily done that and gone down in history as one of the most lethal goalscorers in modern history.

Remember on MotD (I think) when he said to Lawro he likes playing around 10 games a season and they really laid into him for it?

He's not a fan of football, just happens he can play a bit.

Many players start their careers as semi professional, Owen seems to be ending his career that way.

I think that Michael Owen realises that his body simply cannot cope now that he's suffered such horrible injuries.

You don't recover mentally either - when you're young and you bounce back in double-quick time, you're not ever concerned about your physical condition. Owen has spent months-on-end with nothing to focus on but his physical limitations.

It's ingrained in his mentality now - he believes he will get injured if he plays 'too much' and as such is quite happy being occasional substitute/reserve striker.

Smug little mercenary who has more interest in his horses than in football, the sooner he disappears from the footballing/media radar the better.

After playing zero mins of Premiership football this (or any season) i think we'd all like to be England's top goal scorer.....doesn't mean it's going to happen tho does it!!!

Michael, put down the x-box controller and stop playing FIFA...you know you'll cry when your player goes off injured!!

I know I'm in the minority here, but I just can't bring myself to hate him, sorry. Too many good England memories, would love him to get back in the England squad.
