No way am I wanting to cause an uproar on here, but I keep reading comments by fellow fans saying not to worry that we haven't signed a striker because Campbell is on his way back.
Sorry lads but I still think we need a striker, because Campbell isn't the answer to our goalscoring problems.
A good pacey player that causes problems, but not a goalscorer.

    Heres his record

    SEASONAL RECORD: 2009/10-2010/11

Manchester United: 2007-2008 Played 1 Scored 0 goals (Premiership)

Hull City: 2007-2008 Played 34 Scored 15 goals (Championship) (on loan)

Manchester United: 2008-2009 Played 1 Scored 0 goals (Premiership)

Tottenham: 2008-2009 Played 10 Scored 1 goal (Premiership) (on loan)

Transferred from Man Utd on 11/7/2009 for £3.5 million

Sunderland: 2009-2010 Played 31 Scored 4 goals (Premiership)
    2010-2011 Played 3 Scored 0 goals (Premiership)

Hope I'm wrong and MON can rekindle the form he showed for Hull.....

Look forward to reading your opinions...may not be able to comment on them tho as I'm at work!

If he is the same player he was when he picked up the first injury then he is the answer - he was sharp and I'm sure he scored those 4 goals in about 6 or 7 games - but that's the thing - it's a big if!

His record means nothing as he has missed 2 years with injury - the form he showed when he got injured was fantastic - Stats don't always tell the whole story - he looked a very good player when he got injured... Only time will tell

And Bruce probably had him playing out of position.
Put him in the box and I reckon he could be a goal scorer.

a lot of those appearance's were from the bench, it was a cause before he got injured that he had just started to score a few and he looked like he could get 15-20 in a season. He was much younger then. I agree though he is not the answer because after 2 serious injuries its going to take him time to come back. Remember Djib Cisse broke his leg playing for Liverpool and it took him a long time to come back. You could argue he has only been at his best in the last 4 years.

Think people mainly going off the form before he was injured where he seemed to have started scoring regularly but as said if,if,if

I must admit, I've always wondered why Sunderland fans have raved about Campbell so much, as I see no evidence in his goal scoring statistics. I've kept my gob shut though as I admittedly haven't watched him, so he might have something special you guys have seen.

It was his form just before the injury that raised expectations.

He was always worth his place, quick and good on the ball, but Bruce used to play him right wing, hence the goals shortage.

He moved him up front for the Bolton game (after the long run without a win...), Frazier scored first minute, we won 4-0, and he went on to get 3 more in the remaining 4 games of the season, he was growing in confidence, and really looking capable of scoring every time he got the ball.

He then got the injury against City, and the progress was stunted.

He's not the the total saviour, as he'll be a 10-15 tops striker, but he is valuable, and his pace will make space for others.

I'm as chilled as can be. All I did was make two very normal posts to join in with the discussion. Two honest posts which I don't feel were a dig or biased at all, and instead of people just continuing with the convo they would rather disrupt it to have a pop at me.

If people didn't bother doing that then both of this boards latest threads wouldn't be getting derailed as they are now.

As said already he was played out of position, right wing. When he was played in the middle, once again rightly pointed out, he got the 7 goals in 10 games.

Players need a run of games in a team to show their best. If he stays clear of injuries I think he will once again come good.

Why not give him & Connor a chance until the summer?
