I know its not the end of the window yet and there is still a chance the board can show how "****ing horrible" they can be but i was thinking about the transfers in and out of the club since Mandy left and it looks to me like the money has been spent wisely...

    OUT

    Andy Carroll - £35mil
    Jose Enrique - £6-8mil
    Kevin Nolan - £3.5mil
    Joey Barton - £0
    Wayne Routledge - £1mil
    Kazenga LuaLua - £1mil

    Total OUT - £46.5mil

    IN

    Yohan Cabaye - £5mil
    Demba Ba - £0
    Gabriel Obertan - £3mil
    Sylvian Marveux - £3mil
    Davide Santon - £5.5
    Hatem Ben Arfa - £5.75
    Mehdi Abeid - £0
    Rob Elliot - £0.5mil
    Papiss Cisse - £10

    Total IN - £32.75 mil

So a profit of roughly £15 million but then if you take into account signing on fees, agent fees etc and the work done on the training ground (they did say it would come out of the Carroll money) this then leads me to hazard a guess that we are pretty much breaking even with players coming and going since Mandy left. And with the new financial regulations coming in soon this bodes very well for the future

To refer to my earlier point that i started with, it would not surprise me to see someone leave this window that we, the fans, don't want to see go, but if it was good value for money and the money was again reinvested in the team would you be as worried as 12 months ago, when it really looked like Cashley and co. were taking us for a ride?

DISCLAIMER - I do not know all the facts and figures!!! This is all just a rough working out on my part, if you have any better knowledge (more accurate figures/other comings and goings) please share...

Marveaux was free, Cabaye was 4.6mil and Cisse is really only £7.5mill upfornt as the rest is add ons. You can shave 6mill off that total outgoings!!!

i for one was gutted when we sold carroll, but looking at the players that have come in since i wouldnt take him back in exchange. it makes you wonder wether AP and MA knew what they were doing all along. They havent helped themselves with the PR shambles along the way but you have to give them credit.

Hopefully we can keep this squad till at least the summer and kick on for the rest of the season.

i make it roughly that cisse is the first player to "dip into" the carroll chest, if you get me. other transfers pretty much financed each other (enrique + nolan = santon + cabaye)

what is beginning to annoy me though is nobody seems arsed about the 40 odd million we get from tv, just the 35 from carroll.

Since we sold Mandy our net profit hadnt changed from £35mil on transfers.

This deal is about £7.5 raising to £9mil with add ons.

Profit is still a healthy £25 mil at least.

I think we seem like we are on a nice, safe financial basis atm. We seem like if we need a position (say centre back) then we will go out and get it and not worry too much about it. If we get into Europe we will be on a very, very nice financial footing.

Are you suggesting we take funds made by the club, which is used to make us a financially self efficient club and spend that on transfers as well?

Im not sure how exactly clubs are run but i would rather the club was generating enough to financially run itself and just rely on the owner to dip in his own pocket for transfers now and then.

Or that money could have been from the new Virgin Money sponsorship deal we've just got.

Transfers in and out are part of the clubs revenue/expenditure, to be truly self-sufficient the club should also operate in the transfer market with minimal use of the owner's money, which seems to be the plan here.

I'm sure overheads involved in running a PL club swallow up a lot of that.
