Two up front or Sess in behind one? if two up front where would you play Sess or are you dropping him?
Dilemma's eh? Who'd be a football manager? I once got Rangers to the CL final only to lose to Inter on Total Club Manager.
sess could play behind the front 2 in a diamond midfield formation with Vaughan dropping to the bench i suppose
If we play two up front, then Sess could be played on the right side of midfield and McClean on the left...However, it depends on the opposition really...
I would prefer two upfront with Sess behind. Admittedly this leaves one less midfielder but f*ck it lets be gung ho and attack non stop and let teams worry about us. Unfortunately this will not happen cos MON likes one big target man upfront. To be fair he probably knows a little more than me regarding team selection & tactics so on this occasion I will bow to his superior knowledge. Just this once tho.
It seems from your post, that you are asking for an opinion re: Sess. From your staetment it seems you are wanting him to start, It's quite obvious he's not a target man and should not be a lone striker. But then there is a divided opinion Sess could provide 'sitting' and playing behind a lone 'striker', or your other scenario when you have two striker's play him wide, but then it depends on the opposition. I'm sure MoN get's paid much more than I do to work this one out.
Wouldn't drop Vaughan mate, when played alongside Catts, they both have an 85% pass success rate and there's an understanding forming between the 2 of them, leave them and drop either Larsson or McClean???? can't see that happening either and TBH i couldn't pick any of the midfielders to drop based on recent performances, to accommodate 2 up plus Sess. Play Sess with A.N.Other, but who? my choice would be Wickham. if fit.
Difficult call this and i think the fitness and sharpness levels were all equal i would play Wickham up front and Sess just behind. If Wickham is anything less than 100% then Bendtner is his place. I wouldnt drop Vaughan as thought above at all as i actually see his development in the first just as dramatic as MON being manager, he just helps us tick along, great player under-used under Bruce.
Any thoughts on a more attacking formation such as three at the back Ounahu( we should go for him) Brown and O'Shea, 5 in midfield with Catts and Vaughan behind Larrson, Sess and McClean forward midfield, Wickham and Campbell up front. Westwood Ounahu Brown O'Shea Vaughan Cattermole Larrson Sess McClean Campbell Wickham Subs from: Mingolet, Bardsley, Turner, Bramble, Colback, Gardner, Meyler, Richardson,Ji, Bendtner Clearly experimental but emphasis on attacking which is the first form of defence and dependent on one aquisition and fitness. Obviously we would have to carefully choose who we used this type of formation against. Thoughts please. I was so bored with the Wolves v Birmingham replay that I drifted into fantasy land to dream up this formation.
If We had Bent, or Gyan up front, then sessegnon playing behind them would be fine imo. With Bendtner as a lone striker it doesn't work so well imo again.
The original reason I asked was because when Bruce started with this system, Sess in the hole, the vast majority of us were not happy AND it plainly wasn't working. I also think it's easier to chop and change a losing team. However O'Neil has come in and stuck with the same formular (more or less) Sess' in the hole. I originally wanted him to play out on the left but now I think a free role off the front man suits him better. Also we have had the sudden arrival of Mcclean and I think we all want to stick with him on the left as he does excite us. You can look at this system we are currently playing as 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 or even 4-3-3! For me our midfield is now picking itself (being Larrson, Vaughan, Cattermole, McClean) and I think Gardner can count himself unfortunate not to start, although he gets involved in every game at some point. Our two wide men provide excellent balls into the area and for me Sess' looks at his best running at central defenders. So a target man makes perfect sense to me. However would you play Sess' upfront instead of a Wellbeck/Gyan combo or what seemed to work a few months ago before injury (Bendtner/Wickham). After all will Sess' get more than 10 goals this season? I have to say the main two reasons we go to the match is to be excited and to win. (No offence to Newcastle fans but there last home win was awful (they had 1 shot and scored) we all have to win like that sometimes and I know Newcastle were a different class against Man Utd (I've only put that in for our regular mag visitors). Sess' does provide that bit of magic to get you out of your seat as does McClean. It is such a rare thing in football these days to see a good dribbler or a man who can beat a man (not relying on pace). So for Now I'm going to stick with Sess' in behind a lone striker, until MON shows me it works better another way. I know most people would replace Bendtner with their granny but I think a lot of people do underestimate what he brings to us. Yes I agree he needs to score more goals though.
I really do think O'Neill has worked out his squad and his players strengths so quickly, where as Bruce who signed them all seemed clueless as to what to do with them!
I wouldnt change a thing at present lads, why change a formation that is working? glad none of us are in charge and MON is the man picking the team. Its as it is for now unless something goes tits up (Sess injured) and its upto Whickham to take his chance when it comes. Regarding the Bruce 4-4-1-1 situation, yes it did get slated but that is because results wernt going our way and something had to be blamed as it is with ALL football clubs, difference this time is MON tactical awareness, motivation and communication with the player to play that system.
