I didn't realise that we had signed Matty Mainwaring in this way, thought he had come up via the juniors. http://www.stockport.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=269573
Looks quite good when ive seen him for the res. Will do him good to play first team football in the cement league just like Conor Townsend @ Grimsby.
How on earth does someone get released by Stockport because the manager doesn't think they're good enough and then go and get signed up by a Championship club?
He was released by us, went and played non-league football, and then got re-signed by us after impressing. He didn't get released by us and immediately join a club 3 divisions higher up the ladder.
He's 21, and unless he's had his birthday already this year next season he'll need to be part of our 25 man squad if we want to be able to play him. His hair seems familiar though. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
I can understand how he got tried out though. When we signed him he was on Man U's books, he wasn't 21 and deemed not good enough for non-league football.
Do we actually do 25-man squads? I know you've asked a similar question but, why do we have a 21 year old Stockport reject on our books? He's obviously nowhere near the first team, and he doesn't exactly have time on his side.
Yes. For next season the PL ones are 25 players born before 1/1/1991 of which 8 spaces are reserved for homegrown players (players trained by clubs registered with the FA or FAW for 3 years prior to needing to be in the 25). You can also play as many players as you want who were born on or after 1/1/1991. For the Football League the same rules apply, except it's 10 spots reserved for homegrown players.
