    from Nufc.com

The obvious question is whether Cissé has arrived as a partner for Ba or a replacement and press reports of the signing on Tuesday quoted sources close to United's 15 goal striker as welcoming the signing.

Interestingly, it's now also claimed that the much-hyped release clause in Ba's contract only applies in the summer transfer window - not the current one.

That came from George Caulkin's Twitter yesterday. I think the signing of Cisse would convince Demba to sign a new deal with that removed before the summer if offered.

We'll offer him a new deal before the summer and he'll take it because he wants to play alongside his mate, all will be good in the world and 'Arry's ****stirring will have come to nothing.

I'm not that concerned about this release clause.

Sure, clubs will be able to meet the price but that only secures them permission to talk to Ba. It doesn't mean that he's got to go.

If Man Utd et al come in for him I can see him leaving because they offer something that we can't really promise or deliver which is European football, title challenges and silverware. These define a players career.

We've made a lot of progress in the last 3 years but we're nowhere near the standard of an elite team.

    AGREED.

we're a progressive outfit heading in the right direction he seems happy and settled here. he was supposedly married the around the time that he signed for us and the fact that we've just signed his international strike partnert will keep him even sweeter. if they both hit the ground running i can see a cole/yorke style duo and them being happy to stay.

They were talking to Mick Lowes on Talk sport last night. they asked if it was a case of one in one out. He said he spoke to DL and asked the same thing, he said it is the clubs intent not to let any players go in this window and for Ba and Cisse to play together.

I'll wait until the window is firmly shut before celebrating, but for now it looks like we are moving in the right direction. Remains to be seen if there is that player in BUT......

As for Krul to floppy face, why move to spurs to be second choice keeper after he has top spot pinned down here?
Again on Total sport Krul was interviewed and asked if he felt after his time spent here he felt like an adopted geordie, he laughed and said after the time he has spent here it does feel very much like home now.

anyone think the whole cisse thing might have been part of the Ba signing?

Pards said we have been looking at him for near 2 years i wonder if Ba was signed with some of the thinking being put toward Cisse.. as to increase our chances of getting him in. maybe Ba's clauses might have something to do with this transfer too as kind of an assurence we will either a) spend and show ambition, or b) that we sign his friend too at a later date?

    just a thought

Can't see it being anything to do with Ba's release clause.

But maybe they have realised if we sign Cisse, we have a chance to get into Europe and/or pursuade Ba to sign a new contract.

Once that's done then we could sell him for £15m therefore making the Cisse money back pretty much.

I'd like to think Ba will stay until the end of next season at least, maybe longer if we continue to progress.

Put football aside, nobody likes to have to keep moving to new places and settling in again. That's not just specific to football, most of us like some continuity in our life. He came from Germany or somewhere to London, six months later he moved to Newcastle - will he really want to move again a mere 12 months later?

It would be nice to get this clause removed before the summer, the signing of Cisse makes this ever so slightly more likely now. The situation will always be the same with us. While we're a 2nd tier PL club we'll be vulnerable to sales. All clubs below that elite band are, particularly when silly money starts getting thrown about. Ba may be tempted by a big club. If we can get the clause taken out then we'll at least get his market value. People need to remember with Ba he is 26, not some young kid, and has played very little football for a guy his age. He is moreorless trying to cram a normal football career into a much shorter timespan and therefore he may have to make decisions that people won't like. But if he wants to achieve he has to do this and at the end of day he has no real allegience to Newcastle.

As for Krul I think that will be trickier for the likes of Harry. I realise that once a club agrees to sell a player, the player takes that as them not being wanted and moves 9 times out of 10. That is just reality. But Krul is very settled here, and has just built a massive house with his Bedlington lass. He has ties to the area having been here a long time. That is the 1 in 10 that sometimes refuse to move even twhen the club is selling. Krul will also look at how well his career has progressed while at the club and may not see it as necessary to move unless his international ambitions faulter as a result of being with us.

Unless all the talk about his knees are on his mind and he just wants as many big pay days as he can before anything bad happens.
