Would maybe be a target in the summer, but having got Vito in and this Carson lad even if it is only a month I can't see us been in for another keeper when we have more pressing needs at the moment.

I always think camp is massively overrated personally. He's decent enough for championship but no better than that yet he always seems to be regarded as one of the best keepers outside the PL.

The mirror also says PL clubs are in for hammill.

Now that does surprise me. From what ive seen of Camp he has more holes than a cullunder. I would think that Nick may try and get Bo Myhill back in the summer but if not then JACK BUTLAND (England U20 keeper from Birmingham who has been a star performer whilst on loan @ Cheltenham this season) and only 20 in march would be a perfect back up to Vito.

He's a good keeper but not worth the figure quoted

Hopefully when Carson returns to Sunderland Basso will be fit enough to be our no.2 keeper.
Therefore we surely don't need another keeper.

Are you saying that he is an offal keeper?? <sorry>

Personally I doubt there is anything in this. If we had £2mill to spend there are other areas that I would prefer we spent the money

I think Carson will extend anyway. I think the only reason he's on an emergency loan is so that Sunderland can recall him if they need him for their bench. If he joined us on a season long loan they wouldn't be able to recall him early as those kind of loans have to begin and end in a transfer window. On emergency loans you can recall them any time after 28 days.

I hope we don't get Camp though, he has a record of falling out with managers, and his dad has a record of slagging off the management on his behalf to anyone who'll listen whenever he gets dropped.

I would agree with what you said ^^^^ for this season. But in the summer and especially if Basso's knees dont get better then decisions have to be made. IF City are back in the PL then Vito and Bo would be a perfect combo for City. imo,. But Jack Butland is one for the future and at only 20 is worth a punt. I think Mark Oxley will be released.

We have looked at him and he wouldn't cost £2m.

Because, sometimes, 4 keepers as well as 3 young backups aren't enough! <laugh>

I'd be ecstatic with Mannone and Camp as permanent keepers next season, but both would want constant starting berths - we'd end up losing one pretty quickly. Like the Hart-Given situation.

That doesn't make a difference. If he wants it extending to the end of the season it'd have to be a long-term one and would have to be arranged before the end of this month. So they still wouldn't be able to recall him.

Lee Camp is trouble off the pitch so i dont want him anywhere near the club. Vito and Butland would be a great 1, 2 imo. Especially if Basso does have to retire.

As has been said above, you rarely see two great keepers together at one club. We would have to make do with someone not as good who is happy to be on the bench. Also, I'm pretty sure Butland will be commanding big money or staying at Birmingham. I don't see us going for him.

Only for him to be available in the playoffs. You can do 93 days on emergency loans, there's 106 days from when he joined us til the end of the season, but you can break the emergency loan into bits so long as each one is at least 28 days.

If we extend this part of the loan to 37 days it takes us as far as the Brighton game. If we resign him on the Friday of the Blackpool game for the rest of the time he's allowed to be with us on emergency loans then the last day he's eligible is the day we play West Ham.

Between Brighton and Blackpool we're due to play Cardiff, but if they turn round the semi-final then they'll be in the Cup Final and we'll have to rearrange our game and he won't miss any. If they don't then he misses one game between now and when we seal automatic promotion.

I didn't bother to work it out but assumed the 93 days wouldn't take it to the end of the season. There's also things like the timing of emergency loan windows to consider, but I don't doubt you've already done that!

EL window opens a week after the normal one closes and shuts some time in mid-late March. We'd be making the re-signing in early March so we'd be well within it. Although as he's a keeper if we need him to stay because of injuries to other keepers the window is irrelevent as you can sign keepers on ELs at any time providing you only have 1 fit keeper. Sunderland wouldn't need it to be in a window to recall him, but wouldn't be able to in the first 28 days of the second stint. It would mean though they could have him for their dead rubber games at the end of the season if they want to ensure Gordon gets a good rest (I suspect he's an option for the Olympics).

Not sure there are any "dead rubbers" these days when Prize money increases about £1M each place.
