Some of you may be aware, some may not, we lost another of our own on sunday morning. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/...sunderland_fan_george_is_found_dead_1_4118892 A top fella, would do ANYTHING for his fellow supporters, always sorting folk out with tickets for the football and cricket, and if you've ever seen the SAFC flags at the cricket worldwide, often behind the bowlers arm in the most prominent spot, then they were Georges. If you seen the post Ashes celebrations with the England cricket team this time last year, then George was in most of them, either sprawled between Swanny and Ally Cook. http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=661616 Rokers lost a good un. R.I.P Podge.
The bloke was a proper character. Here's his flag after he blagged his way into the members pavillion at the SCG. please log in to view this image He'll be much missed across the barmy army as much as the red and white one.
RIP Podge....a proper SAFC fan who I had the pleasure to know from going to away games back in the day.....will be sadly missed.
didn't know him but i know a lot of people who did know him and they're all devastated to say the least, must have been a top bloke. R.I.P. Podgey
I now live in Cape Town, having been to the last 2 test matches here at Newlands, I would always see this flag. I never knew the guy personally. R.I.P.
Gutted to hear of Goerges passing, we had the best of both worlds with him in Portugal a couple of years ago, watching Sunderland and then in the bar watching Durham get to the 20 20 final. Top man, generous with his company. RIP George from me and the lad.
I was on nightshift last night and was surprised how many of the staff new this lad very well... On a broader scale, suicide once again seems to be on the rise in this country, and it's very sad that people get so down that they feel the need to end it all..
http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/...sunderland_fan_george_is_found_dead_1_4118892 Just spotted this on echo site. I am sure I played football with him many moons ago, real character. Very sad.
Just thought I would mention, his flag, or at least a flag with SAFC and podgy on it is at the test match today (its the only good thing there though, no crowd, and England still cant play spin)
RIP didn't know the lad but loved to see the flags and the Howard Arms getting a mention around the world. Sad news
Twas his funeral today (well yesterday technically) but i've not gone to bed yet. I am pissed, yes. Anyhoo, the barmy army had a fitting tribute to George at the cricket, a minutes applause, then the last post, jerusalem, and wise men say played by billy the trumpeter. Hairs on neck stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vT_gRhhCCP0
