Rejected. http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/sportlatest/9469452.Rooney_bid_rebuffed/ I'm slightly surprised as he's out of contract in the summer. Although I am actually pleased as I would prefer him to stay. I know it doesn't mean he has signed a contract extension. Do we think that it was rejected because they went to the press? Any thoughts? UTG
This is a very big surprised and I hope it doesn't come back to bite us. A six figure sum is a huge amount of money for a players with just six months left on his contract. Personally if I was Scally I would be driving Luke to Swindon myself for that kind of money!! All I can think of is that a gentlemans agreement has be reached in where Rooney has agreed to stay at the club and promised a better contract offer if we go up, or that an extension has already been sorted.
Excellent news. In fairness to Rooney, there has been weekly speculation on the guy, however, I have not seen any words come from him on the topic. It appears he has kept his head down and his mouth shut. Strangely something we normally ask other players and the manager to do.
may just come down to not wanting to sell a player to a rival promotion contender, or atleast not for that amount. plus if he goes end of season we still get money for him, just dont know how much under this new system!
Yeah, just read this. Not sure how I feel about it to be honest. I'm not sure if it is heading in the right direction to be selling our most promising player to promotion rivals though. Here's the report from the KM http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/sport/2012/january/16/luke_rooney-1.aspx?
would of rather he stayed, because he's young and has alot to offer, plus they are of course in the same division wanting and looking to go up...so would rather not, what choice do we have though! we do need players that want to play for the gills and can get us out of this division...and NOW! do hope we manage to sign a couple more ie: jermaine mcglashan(aldershot) a winger who can play both flanks and if possible get matt fry(west ham) a leftsided defender who we've had before, back for the rest of the season with us! also what would be a good idea is getting billy bodin as part of the deal from swindon who was on loan at torquay fc??? at the end of the day...not committed...they have to go!!!
I expected Rooney to leave as Gills never really believed in him, they may have offered him a new deal but i don t think it was much more than he was already on.We do need to bring on some of the youth players who should be at least on the bench. Rooney and Payne are the only 2 players to come through for at least 5 seasons, which for a lower league club is awful. I know Freeman also came but he did not even start a match before being sold on.
luke rooney is now a swine player, after his agent father & rooney agreed terms this evening...though still to be confirmed offically! lets move on and hopefully hess gets to buy two or three more to get us where we want to be! UTG!!!!!!
£200k?! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha DiCanio has completely lost it!! Not suggesting that Rooney hasn't got potential but he only has 6 months left on his contract, and I doubt the tribunial fee would be anywhere near that
doubt very much it's £200,000 more like £150,000 for rooney or £100,000 plus a player exchange???. after all...daily star said we had bid £200,000 for jermaine mcglashan of aldershot last week! hope it's true and we did bid for mcglashan, but it would be nowhere near that amount! also see we may have a permanent position for john yems as our assistant coach in the near future...well regarded in football circles...lets hope so because we need someone in the permanent role of day to day!
I wasn't too surprised to find out he used to assist Buckle, considering Tomlin did well for them there must have been an opinion from him on that front. I think things would certainly be more smooth running with another pair of hands behind the scenes, it's been noticeable since Hendon and Downes left the club. On the transfer fee, I know it sounded a bit much but I was being optimistic Hopefully this particular piece of business could be cleared up so we have a reasonable amount of time before the closing of the window to address any weaknesses.
Sad to see the lad go. A great talent who could/should end up playing at Championship level at the very least. Maybe as Di Canio was a flair player, he may be able to get the best out of him. Hope we have included a sell on clause as part of the deal!
His interview after signing seems to pinpoint Di Canio as a major reason behind the move, that said in the same interview he spoke positively of Gillingham. When Spiller left the club for Millwall it was probably the wrong decision and he was plagued by injury, I hope that Rooney has a better time of it. Well...not this season. Or for that club. Yeah scratch that lol
