Quote from yesterday's match report: Pardew bucked the recent trend of blaming officials for everything from the state of the economy to the price of rail tickets and backed referee Chris Foy for only cautioning Derry.

Can't say I've ever heard Pardew unnecessarily criticising refs, just another bit of lazy journalism I suspect.

    What the actual **** like

Perhaps the journalist is referring to recent trends from man managers as a whole and not targeting it at Pardew himself

I read it as meaning he is the only manager recently not to criticise the ref, not as this being the only time when he hasn't.

I think the Express were talking about other managers, and not Pardew, i.e Wenger, Mancini blaming referees, whereas Pardew accepted the decision and even praised the ref.

even if it was a sly insult which i dont think it wasnt.. the medias extra efforts in stirring trouble with transfers and lack of general respect to our performances only says one thing to me... we are doing things right.. we are pissing off the press because they dont have any "NUFC Soap Opera" scandals to write about.

I blame referees for this mix up, just like I blame them for anything written in the Daily Express.

Was it not enough to join up with Sauron and besiege Minas Tirith?! Jesus refs, just leave it

Easily misconstrued but I agree with the others who say that they meant this as a compliment.

    Still a ****e paper mind!

I did see Pardew interviewed on tv yesterday, he did indeed praise the referee, has anyone noticed how the tv companies edit out the reporters asking a question, they show the response, hence making it look like a manager is making a statement rather than answewring a question.

Yeah they do it all the time. Really bugs with SSN in particular. They repeat everything almost constantly all day long so does it really hurt to leave the soundbite a little bit longer and get the true story?

Those SSN presenters must be going mad with the total boredom of their jobs.
