Don't think Pardew's too concerned by it. I think he'll probably start against Fulham, and it's two weeks to the league game after that (FA cup in between) so he's got plenty of time if he does sit out the Fulham game.

Really? Pardew said he expects him to play next week. Where did you hear this?

Newcastle club doctors do not think Yohan Cabaye has suffered any serious ankle ligament injury, according to manager Alan Pardew.

The Frenchman left the pitch on a stretcher after being felled by QPR midfielder Shaun Derry's 20th minute challenge during Sunday afternoon's 1-0 victory for the Magpies.

Cabaye reacted furiously, although Pardew, who later revealed the injury did not seem as bad as was first feared, admitted referee Chris Foy - the man who controversially sent off Manchester City'sVincent Kompany seven days ago - had probably got it right in only producing a yellow card.

He said: "It was a strong challenge, but Shaun Derry is a player who makes strong challenges. The referee was right on top of it.

"I thought it was borderline yellow/red, but I think probably it was a yellow. He seemed to get the ball.

"There always controversy about tackling. It's very, very difficult for referees, so I am not going to sit here and criticise that decision.

"But Yohan was upset. He felt it was probably a little bit over-exuberant, but the doctor thinks he is going to be okay."

To be fair the formation we played once Yohan went off worked really really well!

Why can't Wenger be that level headed? Can we swap manager for a week or two, Pardew seems to be working miracles, like a cockney jesus. Right, goodnight.

Don't think it will be serious. Thought he overeacted to a standard football challenge. He caught him and it was a yellow but his reaction was over the top. Looked to me like a painful blow as opposed to one stopping you carrying on. He has had a little problem there though so maybe he felt it more than it looked. He certainly jumped up quick enough to give him a shove. Now you could say adrenaline could account for this remarkable recovery, but to me he just looked like he was in a bit of a huff. Hard to tell from where I was but certainly when I watched highlights. I suppose if he is back next week, he was either being a fanny or he just felt it was sore enough to stop. Either way I'm not concerned he'll be out for any length of time. Anyway I thought it was very rich for Cabaye to react the way he did given he has committed a few worse ones already this season!!

"Didn't Cabaye make a similar tackle against Liverpool?"
