Bit of both because we didn't have to accept the money or the 'transfer request' then on the other hand he didn't have to accept the contract

Could have said no, but the money was more important to him.

to be fair it was no ones fault, 35m was a good amount of money and carrol is at a club he is happy at so lets just end it, he always said newcastle was his "home town club" he never said that he supported the club.

If he didn't want to go, why did he put in a transfer request?!
the worst thing that they could have done to him to make him leave would be, what, keep him on the same contract? And surely if he loves this club so much then the money wouldn't have mattered
I hate Ashley just as much as the next guy but I don't blame him for selling a player, who requested to leave, for a huge amount of money

A bit of both. I will always hate Carroll now cause yes he could have stayed but then again, £35m... you can see why we cashed in and we all know Ashley wouldn't have said no but like I say, if a player loves his home town, he would have said no.

Carroll's agent thinking about both their bank balances.
Carroll for being so easily led.

Carroll, to repeat the obvious: he could have said no, they contracted him for 5 years and £30,000 a week is not a low amount of money, especially when you're getting an increase in the summer.

I dont 'blame' anyone! Carroll will have only ever be valued at £35 mil one day in his whole career and that was down to Torres' sale to Chelsea. So from Ashley and the clubs point of view its an excellent piece of business. From Carrolls point of view he goes to a team with a higher reputation and doubles his money. IF we get the £35 mil to spend i doubt we will be so bitter about this. Thats football, thats businness

He said he had a season ticket and used to watch Shearer and wanted to emulate him. He also said he wanted to stay here for the rest of his career multiple times. Nobody forced him to say that.

I voted just Carroll, due to the fact that he was given a contract therefore could have stayed, clearly doesnt love the club and his hometown as much as he would have us believe, hes certainly no Shearer, hope he flops at Dipperpool.

Can't really say it's anyone's "fault" because that would be suggesting nothing positive came out of the transfer, I for one can think of 35 million very good reasons. Carroll wanted more money, Ashley didn't want to give him it so off he ****ed and the £35mil softened the blow <ok>

Anyone who thinks its Ashleys fault needs to jump off the bandwagon. If you believe Carroll didnt want to leave then your fickle. Could he not have waited until the end of the season to get a new contract? Did he have to accept the terms offered by Liverpool? No he did not.
