Just the three meetings today. Kelso, Kempton and Navan. The race today that took my attention was the 14:10 at Kempton, a 3yo event at a mile. Only five of them to go around but all of them have a chance. Rightly or wrongly, I've always had the feeling that good grass form stands up well on all weather. Speedy mouse is in this with a real shot. But in the end I came back to the sand lot mob. I think Next Cry will lead and Fistful Of Dollars will be on his hammer. The latter should get to the front at some stage in the straight, but will he get there from something finishing on? I think possibly yes. Any of the five can win though, so I suppose Speedi Mouse and Availed Speaker are great value. KELSO. Abandoned. KEMPTON. 14:10 Fistful Of Dollars. cyc. NAVAN. Advice for women: Men are either hungry or horny, if you see him without a hard on, make him a sandwich.
Not much to go at today I'm afraid, In the first at Navan, Willie Mullins unleashes Terminal and it will be interesting to see how he performs (although he is no betting prospect at odds of 4/7). Racked up a hat-trick at smaller French tracks and will surely have enough to take this weak looking event, but will he possibly enter calculations for the Supreme Novices? Only Betfair have him listed at the moment at a rather miserly 24 If they are on a going day there is no reason why Mullins & Walsh can't rack up a 4-timer via Terminal, So Young, Are Ya Right Chief and Bagber and at the early prices the accumulator pays just over 11/1. Something for the adventurous to pass a quiet Sunday afternoon with Nothing worthy of a nap today though from me. Best of luck to all who dabble
Shocked to read about Dean Windass trying to commit suicide: http://www.sportinglife.com/footbal...E=soccer/12/01/15/SOCCER_Windass.html&BID=165 I wonder how many other ex-pros end up in a similar hole?
Crikey oddy, that is shocking news. He isn't one of those characters that you expect to be going down that route. Fire In Babylon is a handicap blot in the 4.10 but whether he is too short or not is a different question. I like Big Creek in the 3.40, will write it up after breakfast!
We have a bloke here who plays Aussie Rules, Ben Cousins, who is a basket case. I think he's been committed. A lot of these people are caught in the "family" of football, and when they leave, it's almost as though they go into a grieving type of process. Really sad stuff. I think there are probably a lot more out there that we never hear about.
On a cheerier note the card at Newbury on Wednesday looks like it could be potentially very decent. Triumph hurdle hopefuls go in the first, with Alan King's exciting pair Grumeti and Vendor entered together with John Ferguson's Asaid and the one he just beat last time, Nicky Henderson's One Lucky Lady. Ferguson also has Art History entered (was going well when running out on debut), Paul Nicholls the French-bred Pearl Swan and Don McCain Sud Pacifique, who was last seen winning a class 2 handicap at Beverley off 91. Jim Best has a couple in, including Dubawi Dancer although this one seems to have an entry every week. This is followed by a decent looking novice chase with Bellvano, Lidar, Cristal Bonus and Cedre Bleu amongst possibles (assume Menorah won't run) and a novice hurdle where Barry Geraghty is already booked to ride Tour d'Argent for Nicky Henderson. This one hosed up at Doncaster over the christmas period and is clearly going in the right direction. There's an ultra-competitive 3 mile chase, a mares novices chase, an above-average looking bumper and a Hunter Chase to round it all off. Hopefully Jack Frost will stay away from Newbury between now and then.
Cyc: Same theme but situation quite different. When I was a lad QPR had a goalkeeper named Reg Allen. Rangers were just a 3rd Division side so Reg had very little chance of an England cap. But he was absolutely brilliant, a great goalkeeper with a physique to rival Tarzan's! Definitely, and I mean definitely, one of the best two goalkeepers in the country. Sadly, Reg's career was interrupted by the war, and he spent many years in a POW camp working in the Silesian salt mines. When he finally finished playing, and possibly in the latter stages of his playing days too, he became something of a religious fanatic. Soap boxes and everything. Lost track so don't know what happened to him in the end. Very tragic, a truly superb No.1.
Morning all, Shame there was a few I fancied at Kelso today, no bet for me atm! See how the afternoon goes.
Morning all, Nass, re the plot horse, i would say it might actually be a good lay, for the reason it looks like a plot and the price is very short. Very simple and believable excuse - didnt get the trip.
Nass: Volador should be kept in the notebook? He just ran out of steam a bit after his 636 days off? Ran well, I thought.
I often wonder about some of these guys who don't get the breaks Swanny. There must be many a man playing in the lower divisions who'd do really well if given the chance in a top flight team.
Swanny, he really took the eye, as you say he seemed to run out of steam. I think if all is well he will be winning before the end of season.
Ron, if you are reading, any success with easier implementation of getting runners into your database?
No Nass. It takes anything from 15 to about 30 mins to import a week's race results from the RP Index. I've designed the import so that it unpacks the position, SP, course and time. Once on top it's OK as I can just spend a few mins per day. If I do one each day it should only take a couple of mins (the problem with doing a lot at once is that sometimes Word doesn't do its job and I have to close it down and re-open). It was a bit monotonous getting up to date with October and November so I wanted to check the interest before going any further. One source of error could be that I have recorded the actual change dates whereas, if not an injury, the replacement should take effect from the following month. I wasn't sure what the effective dates of change should be but, if needed, I only need to change the effective dates and all will be re-calculated. Another source is horse names not spelt consistently across members. I'll normalise the data to get rid of that (should have done that to start with, tut tut)
All the Mullins/Walsh horses are too short for Me, I expect Terminal and So Young to bolt up but no bet at the prices. I've just had the one bet on KAKAGH in the 3.30 at Navan. Took the SP, I expect him to be a bigger price at the off. Ran over 3 miles last time and all his best form is over 2 and half, Hopefully he'll go well at his preferred distance today...
