Just spotted Antonio come on for Reading and it reminded me of what a fantastic player he was when on loan at us. But, nowadays he has been really struggling to get into the Reading first team. I remember our fans calling for him to be signed permanently in the summer of 2010. He showed great potential with us and it was thought, he was going to be the next big thing for Saints. I think it's a shame that he hasn't been playing alot to get recognition that he deserves. If he had signed for us, then I think he would of improved as a player and been a 'Saint' for a long time.
I don't get why people say we should get him? He was here 2 years ago, has declined as a footballer move on people ...
Yeah, I miss them both, a little bit. I think they would have improved with Saints. I'm doubtful either would be regulars in the present line up, but I'm sure they would be used in the rotation. Wonder what Papa Waigo's upto nowadays..? Would he be too quick for Championship lino's..?
I think you've missed the point. If we had signed him, he'd of been a better player. And so what if it was 2 years ago? It was the first season that we had hope installed into every Southampton fan when being taken over. Remember the good times, because they're not normally many.
Oh come on, don't feel too sorry for him....I'm a Michail fan but he's still young and he's scored at a Wembley final bagging himself a winners medal. Got a feeling his time will come - but maybe not at Reading COYS
im just saying that he hasnt signed, he wont sign move on from going on about signing him every window
im not on about you? its commonly said on here, daily echo, saints facebook every window and its getting repetitive
Agreed. I didn't rate him as a top player. He had good pace and caused havoc because neither he nor the defenders knew what was happening next. A lot of saints fans rave about him, but he was not a good footballer technically and that has shown in his non appearances for Reading. Pardew used his pace well, but I never thought he's be a good player long term for saints.
He has been on loan at Colchester and, from what I have seen of him, has not stood out. Short term, he would have been good but in the long term i do not feel that he would have been a major asset.
Agreed, but I think Mighty is right, he was a young player who might be a far better player now, had he be signed for us at the time as he showed such a rapid improvement whilst he was here. His finish in the JPT final was class. Be a shame if that was the high point of hs career at such a young age. I have no desire to look back, though. We have many great young players with excellent futures ahead of them. What we need now is different to what we needed in League 1.
Aww, yeah, so do I. He brought an awful lot of fun back into being a Saints supporter, while the recovery was in its infancy. I still remember him being introdcued to the crowd, the time when he picked up that little kid, who'd run on, and took him back to his seat. The post match comments from Pardew were great. Good moments. Little did we realise how quickly they'd get better still. This is probably the best way to remember both Antonio and Papa Waigo:
