I suspect your right, but when you consider it from the financial side the Allems were never going to pump in more than £1million because the rest would have come from sales and not their pockets.
It doesn't mean that at all. It means Nick Barmby hasn't spent more than that. For all we know the Allams would have backed a bid for Sharp (or even Rooney) but NB didn't want him. Just because you have a budget of £5m doesn't mean you have to spend it if there is no one you think will improve the squad who is available. I mean are there any Goalies for sale who are better than Mannone who we have got for free? NB has seen Josh King play, maybe he thinks he is better than Sharp and is "free"!
J Rather than slating the guy who has saved our club from financial ruin, have you thought that maybe the reason we aren't going to spend millions in this transfer window because the manager, NB is happy with the squad and players we already have and doesn't want to? I know for a fact we haven't even tried to sign any permanent players apart from Hammill and an enquiry to Burnley for Jay Rodriguez, not because the Allams won't give NB the cash, but because he is very happy with our squad and doesn't think we need to spend millions unless the absolute right player is available . The attitude of our fans amazes me at times.
Do you honestly think that if Barmby had say £2.5million to spend he would spend less than a million in a potential promotion season? We have a good first team but a few injuries in key positions would soon expose how thin the squad is.
You quite clearly don't know NB very well at all, and I know he will do what he thinks is best for Hull City. If you spent just 5 minutes talking to him you will know he is genuinely excited and happy about the squad we have, and has bags of belief and confidence in their ability to get us promoted this season. There is no certainties that spending big money will get us promoted. If the right player becomes available then he will look to sign them, but he isn't going to just spend money for the sake of it. He has been assured there is money if he wants it.
Don't start the smug self-satisfied crap with me pal. You have inside knowledge on the transfer side but that doesn't mean you're the only one allowed to express an opinion on here. My point about the amount of money we were led to believe was available is perfectly fair. I didn't slate Mr Allam at all, but criticised the amount of money he is putting into our promotion push. The fact that he saved our club doesn't mean we can never question him or whatever direction he takes. And as regards whether Barmby could do with more money read my response to TygerTyger.
We're not even half way through the window yet, we do have a bid in for a player, if something else comes up, we may end up having a bid in for another one, but it's Nick who must decide who he wants and if the squad is strong enough.
No manager is ever happy with their squad it can always be improved. How can he be happy but enquired about a big strong centre forward something every man and his dog knows would help us immensely.
I ain't being smug, I'm just just trying to explain to you that just because we aren't spending millions, it doesn't mean millions aren't available. It is unfair at this stage to have a go at either the Allams or NB, time will dictate if their way is right or not. If NB doesn't want to sign a big name forward their is bugger all we can do about it, however much we disagree, but lets give him time to prove us all wrong. There is money available if NB wants it, his current thinking is that he doesn't. Right or wrong, time will tell.
But that player wasn't available. NB thought that JR would improve on what we have, currently what is available in his opinion wouldn't improve us, so there is no point just signing someone for the sake of it.
I agree and i dont think anyone on here just wants to sign a name. I would have been happy bringing in Le fondre or Sinclair. We lack height and in pace in our forwards. For a promotion push we need 4 forwards and rotate them.
That's all you had to say. I think you need to appreciate that I'm neither 'slating' nor 'having a go' because I've questioned Mr Allam's January budget so far. You actually stated on another thread that you understood that the deals on the table so far would probably be the end of the spending for this window. I also never criticised NB. The point I'm making is that the squad is now strong in midfield and goalkeepers, but even with King there are still doubts about our strength in depth in the forwards and the same applies to the defence. With this in mind it's not unreasonable to suggest that NB might want one or two more faces in.
Nick rates Simpson, he also really rates King, I think with those two on board, he thinks we're covered up front(and we're still chasing an attacking wide player). The next few months will show if he's right or not, either way, I'm happy to leave him to find out.
The January window has never been a good time to make big permanent signings. Clubs hang on to their good players because there is still a half season to play for, and maybe the ones available are the players teams don't want. It's difficult, so loans are usually the best way to go. Summer window is a different thing as you are looking to build a squad for a whole season and beyond, plus other managers "new" to clubs may want to change their squad and that loosens up availability. I think City will do some more business but any big signings will be in the summer.
We,re no different to a lot of other clubs in any of the leagues, we,re looking for that special player who will get us the goals to take us whereas other clubs might be looking for a similar to keep them up, its commonly known that January prices for players are greatly inflated compared to the July prices. NB may have a shopping list that OLM and others might be aware of, but that list could change if certain players get injured or if someone comes in with a massive bid that can,t be refused. i,d like to see us get Mannone on a permanent deal and a turneresque centre back who scores goals from corners and freekicks, i think we have a decent midfield with a varying array of players who can all provide something different, i thnk we lack a striker who has blistering pace with good finishing skills, AM is fast but both he and Fryatt seem to miss some of the easier chances that they have,
