Never been to China. So i cannot comment on that. Shame as i fancy going there one day and hoped that the food in China would be better than here. Oh well.

Don't been fooled. Chinese takeaway food is in no way like the the food you get in China. its a very bad representation of one of many regional cuisines in China. My favourite are Szechuan hotpots. You have big pans of broth boiling at the tables and throw meat, veggies, whatever you like, cook them and take them out. At the end you can drink the broth which now has all the flavours from what was cooked in it. It is incredibly hot and spicy.

I have been to China maybe 20 times with work over the last few years and love the place. The food is great -- and cheap -- the people are friendly, the countryside breathtaking and the historical sites amazing.

Szechuan is by far the best Chinese food, food from many of the other regions doesn't taste of anything at all, there's too much boiled chicken on a bed of rubber bands for my liking.

My favourite Chinese food would have to be either scorpions or chicken fetus. I also love the fact that in the public toilets, you **** in a hole with no privacy. Very interesting.

Good to see that my thread asking for advice has now turned into a debate on airline food!!
As it happens, the tickets are now changed, so I'll look forward to being served some unrecognisable unedable **** <ok>

I was once woken up to be served a pot noodle on a KLM flight

Anyway, BL - did you get sorted? When do you go?

Why is that? Given that the takeaways tend to be staffed by orientals it's bizarre that they cook different ethnic food for us than they'd eat at home.

Yes, eventually! I dealt direct with Delta who were more than helpful and have re-issued the tickets. We fly on the 17th March. We were originally going on the 22nd, but we've booked for an additional 5 days as we are getting married in Central park on the 21st! Should be a good one!

Because, at home, they aren't faced with a mass of pissed individuals (with no real sense of taste) when the pubs chuck out?

Yes well done mate a great thread this one. Glad that you are now sorted out and please do let us know the quality of the food. Maybe take some pictures of what you are served so that we can have a quiz as to what you had ? Only kidding. The last time i flew with Delta the food was fine with as much drink as you could put down. Have a great trip and time in NYC.

I reckon customers being pissed would be more reason to serve up insects and chicken foetus.

WOW. That's some airline you travel on, I think he was going to be grateful for a pot noodle.

Thanks! It's a bit of a last minute decision, we only got engaged 2 weeks ago, but we were having a week in NYC anyway, loved the idea of getting married there so thought we'd grab the opportunity with both hands! Flights are changed, officiant and photographer booked, so it's a ceremony in Central Park followed by a 2 hour photo shoot all around Manhatten!
It beats trying to decide what volovaunts people want and who wants champagne on arrival to the reception!
