It's a perminant untill the end of the season, so the fee couldn't be that big. Bit confused lol

I had the same feeling that it was a normality fee for the contract size, but it is a good idea as I think they would have probably put in a clause that if we want to we can extend it after 10 goals or if he is good till the end of the season, it is to take away the risk from us, Also sort of the same with Tomlin, we could have got him permanent on a free but if we loan him and he does bad he can go back, Scally is trying to avoid another McCammon.

Hoadie, my personal opinion is the opposite, I reckon we have only signed Kuffour until the end of the season dependent on whether we get promoted.

I think we have gambled a heck of a lot financially on getting promoted this season, failure to do so, could mean we might have to look at losing our luxuries if faced with another season in League Two.

That was the other one in my head, but I thought there was a chance it was the one I said.

good deal for all concerned till end of the season and we know how things stand for gillingham fc.

surely a fee involved even if till end of season???

if rooney does go in this window, and it's a big if???...due to the fact he'll have more of a club choice at the end of season, i'd like it if we could get this jermaine mcglashan of aldershot fc into the club!

on a whole though well done paul scally and andy hess.....onwards & upwards!!! <somersault>

no idea what team it was. 1 person mentioned barnet but that was something he heard so not reliable.

im hearing the fee was £40,000 raising to £50,000 if certain clauses are reached! i dont know if true either!

i've heard we have taken over the rest of kuffour's contract till the end of the season, which would mean he's signed on a free!

any which way.....one of us is wrong sparrow, and i'd say the truth lies at our end....though i could be wrong!!!

anyhow, the thing is we have a diamond of a player now....long may it continue!

We were still running a League One wage structure last season too, so Hess has been back heavily for the last two season. He can have no complaints on that front. I hope that we have something to show for it at the end of the season because if we don't go up I feel that we will have to let Hess go as he would have proved to all but the most diehard Hess supports that he is simply not up to the task!

Even the much maligned Stimson managed to get us promoted at the first time of asking, arguably with a weaker squad

Interesting thought I agree that this squad the current squad is better than Stimsons but if we had Jackson and Barcham (and maybe Royce) in this team I think we would be running away with this league

    Sky Sports are reporting

'Jo Kuffour joins Gillingham on a deal until the end of the season after he leave Bristol Rovers'

To me that suggests that we have simply taken over his contract as Oxon stated. I also agree with BRB that we would only have signed him until the end of the year on the proviso that we are promoted, which would probably suit both parties. If we are in League 2 still, then Birchall and Kedders will have to do. If we are in League 1 then we may have the luxury of supporting another striker, time will only tell.

One other plus for us though is that we have Spiller coming back soon, so that will essentially be like another signing as he can play anywhere across the middle of the park and started the season very well, and in goalscoring form might I add. Obviously i would also like to see another winger come in, or even a centre half, however lets be realistic about it.

it's alongway off, but should we go up, and yes, we all sure hope we do!!! i can see us trying to sign andy barcham from the club he's at, back for the gills!

yes gills-man, i'd like it if this jermaine mcglashan was to sign for us from aldershot fc...a pacey tricky winger who can play either flank, maybe also a young loan defender at a premier/championship club like fry from west ham? height/strength/pace would be good.....though we need to give essam & davies time on the pitch...don't think they will let the club down!

also see that hessy, with the young crop we have coming through...dack, miller, parter, hess/hare junior etc, has now started to bring them in with the first team squad for training, which sounds a good idea alround!
plus ashley miller has just signed his frst pro contract with the gills....hopefully good times ahead with the up & coiming youth breed!!!

This is a pretty solid acquisition really, I think the main chat is right about us just taking over his contract as BR have no need for a player that doesn't play whilst still be the highest earner in the squad. It seems Buckle was chatting nonsense really. My guess is that it is a similar situation to when we signed Barcham from spurs, we'll have first option on him but it'll be mainly down to if we get promoted or not. We have some pretty weekly costs in terms of contracts now, Weston, Jackman, Lawrence, Lee and Whelps must all be on reasonable money. Well done Scally again for putting the money on the line, hopefully this'll pay off! UTG!

Smart signing this IMO - a player that can turn games. <ok>

great signing!! keep him till the end of the season, sure theres a extension incentivde thrown in as well. however it allows us to see how burchill is doing when he comes back and certainly eases the pressure on him and keds to get fit!!

Great news that he's signed, and that's the most important point. But once again I'm fascinated by the actual deal. Although we don't know the details it's obviously not a 'conventional' transfer, and shows once again the ability of Scally to get a deal done that would certainly seem to be a safe and low cost option for Gills.
