Morning Shako. I've always hated this kind of thing too, whether it's black/white, Catholic/Protestant, or whatever. But what is Fenlon trying to say ? He's complaining that players are being charged with abusing fans ("His own striker, Leigh Griffiths, was given a one-match ban for making a gesture at Rangers supporters ") and argues that it should be the same when fans do it to players. Fair enough, but then he says he didn't want to make an issue of it and when the copper said he could make an official complaint he said he didn't want to. If he feels strongly about it why doesn't he do something about it ? Instead of complaining that nobody does anything about it and then failing to do something about it himself.
On the racism subject, I think it is almost going too far in the game to be honest. I can understand it getting punished and i obviously dont agree with it but realistically getting 8 game bans for something that isn't even backed up by more than 1 player is ridiculous (I hate to bring this back up). But what do you think the punishment should be? I think thats it too hard to control / not worth it in all honesty to take it to the severity of what happened with suarez (although i believe suarez was innocent but thats another thing entirely) Its a toughy
Been saying this for years, somehow the majority of people in the UK appear to think the racism card is only applicable to black people.
They've based Suarez's guilt on the fact his story didn't match, could this be to do with the fact he's Uruguayan and struggled to put his point across! If a player makes racist comments and it is proven (take a look at Mr Terry at Chelsea, clear video evidence) then a serious ban should be given, the whole racism issue is vile. There's banter by players but there must be a line drawn and racism is stepping over it.
Yes, thats fair enough. Especially the John Terry situation where he is clearly caught on camera but no one else backed up evra and he wasn't caught on camera. I dont think he can get punished at all for this and i've gotta be honest an 8 game ban is harsh when there is no real evidence
I thought that Suarez had admitted using the 'N' word but claimed it was socially acceptable to do so in Uruguay and it was therefore some sort of cultural misunderstanding. Just something I'd heard but if true then Evra didn't need anyone to back him up, Suarez did that for him.
8 games is harsh on the evidence at hand, but the long and short of it is that the FA were under pressure to make an example out of him. They just wanted to show a strong opposition to racism in football because these two events had popped up at the same time, and people were asking questions. Unfortunately that's how these things go, in any type of disciplinary hearing, even in the justice system.
No im not so sure that was the case. I know that Evra actually admitted to saying something offensive to Suarez but off the top of my head i cant remember what however he got away with it for soem unknown reason (It may have not been racist but this is where i think it gets tough) If it wasn't racist, where do you draw the line because no offense to anyone intended here but racism comments aren't the most offensive comments that can be made imo. So is the FA gonna start banning players for other things as well, this is starting to lead into a downward spiral and someone can equally get offended just as much by a non-racist comment as much as someone can be offended by a racism comment. Who are the FA to decide that what this person gets offended for is more valid than the other???
I believe the 'N' word he used was 'Negro', which is Spanish for black. It must have been the other words he used that were the offensive ones. Perhaps he should have said 'noir'.
My point wasn't really about hibs players being punished, but more to do with the fact that fenlon was racially abused. He didn't make a fuss of it(pursuing it) because IMO we aren't as sensitive to it as the blacks, whom I think use the R card far too easily. I'm guessing there are plenty of players getting abuse from black players, Scottish this, Irish that etc etc, but you don't hear about it because those players don't run to the authorities and complain.
I think the issue is the persecution of black people throughout history and the slave trade. I know the Irish have been given a certain tag throughout history but nothing in comparison to the black race. Therefore when the N word is used it is extremely deragotory.
I dont think its just the N word tho its many more that have now become offensive. I used to live the advert at elland road with the ( INSERT WORD) person When I was born, I was black. When I grew up, I was black. When I get hot, I am black. When I get cold, I am black. When I am sick, I am black. When I die, I am black. When you were born, You were pink. When you grew up, You were white. When you get hot, You go red. When you get cold, You go blue. When you are sick, You go purple. When you die, You go green. AND YET YOU HAVE THE CHEEK TO CALL ME COLOURED!!!
If suarez didnt realise that using the n word in a aggressive way was racist, after he said he didnt talk to black people, than he should get locked up in a looneybin. If you read what actually happened, eight matches is right. Just hope terry gets ten, the horrible ****
Here's something else to hope for, Liw. When Duncan Ferguson got jailed for headbutting Whatshisname McStay, the SFA insisted that he serve his ten match suspension AFTER he got out of the jug. By that time, he was at Everton & the FA agreed to uphold the SFA's decision. If Terry goes down (fingers crossed!), we should make lots of noise to encourage the FA to apply this double punishment as though precedent has been set. Bit ropey, but you never know ...
