Good old Stokesley town hall (my home town) One of the finest buildings ever built (I may be slightly biased)

Apparently there is so much asbestos in it they cant blow it up, and no one wants to pay to demolish it safely so it's been sitting around for about 15 years.

Yeah it's a tad controversial in that sense. Surely the architect must've sat there thinking "where have I seen this before?"...

For me actually I don't think there are many buildings that could beat Durham Cathedral, especially when you consider it's age:

Architects don't think!! Also there was a bit of a hum doo regarding that design anyway. The Dutch architects claimed it did not look like what everyone else thinks (they are failed civil engineers who can't do maths but can draw nice pictures and hated dealing with them) and quite frankly seemed not to care

Another amazing place - Basilica di San Marco in Venice. Stunning building on St Mark's Square, although tbh I thought the rest of the square was pretty hideous and you got a lot of bother. The best bits of Venice generally were off the beaten track, it's such a small series of Islands it makes sense to just get lost and wander.

(All my pics are tiny! But think you can click them for bigger versions - what am i doing wrong, any ideas?)

I went to school in Lanchester because it was near my dad's work so it was in the County Durham school choir competition and the final was at Durham Cathedral.

Great Thread. Here's my three faves from Asia. A lotus themed number in Macau, The Petronas Towers and the new Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

I raise you this. The underground car park in Ixelles Brussels.

They paved over the top shortly after this picture and planted a tree or two but alas, you can't park in the underground car park to date because the daft bastards forgot that the carpark is in a valley with steep streets running into the square, it's next to a lake and is also ina country where it rains a hell of a lot... so it is prone to flooding and they can't get insurance to open it.

    I **** you not.
