In my opinion yes. We have a great backbone to the team in Colo, Cabaye, Tiote and Ba, some excellent talent in Ben Arfa, Vuckic and Abeid. We are also the first of the teams pushing for Europe to start to balance our books and be ready for when Financial Fair Play rules kick in.

We are also being linked with several young and upcoming talent, such as Zaha, Rhodes, Tomkins, French youngsters, Morrison etc. If we can get some of these potential future stars snapped up on long term deals with minimal transfer money payed for them, we will have a greater squad depth but also have quality in depth.

If UEFA do enforce their FFP rules strictly and some of the bigger clubs are forced to have to sell to balance the books we may be on the same level as them in the next few years if we keep our current squad of players here, mainly Ba, Tiote and Cabaye.

What do you think? Is it possible to be pushing for CL places in a couples seasons? Will top teams decline when FFP kicks in?

    Looks bright for us, yes.

Top teams declining? Doubt it, they'll find some way around it. Money always seems to win...

As with any new rule, it will be full of loopholes so the big clubs will continue to spend big until there's no other way but to operate within your own means.

Secondly, a club could never be forced to sell. FFP rules will only affect European competition qualification. So with that in mind, you might see teams like City have a massive spending spree just to mount an assault on the domestic front, knowing fine well that they won't qualify for Europe until they break even again.

Liverpool are desperate for a PL trophy so I'd expect them to completely ignore FFP rules in a pathetic attempt to gain a competitive advantage, it won't work though, they have zero bottle at the business end of the season.

Why would a big spending club only target the league knowing they won't get European football? There's more revenue in European football than domestic

I think fans are being led up the garden path with this 'financial fair play' excuse as to why Ashley has kept his hand in his pocket.

If you were a chairman/owner and didnt want to spend any money, you'd play this Fair play card everytime.

Dont read that much into it. Teams find a way around everything.

I would not say the future is bright. I would argue we have reached the top of where the MA regime is likely to take us unless one of the top teams implodes on a big scale. Wages and such like will not be a key factor any more but you will find certain clubs can pay more due to their higher turn over. Man Utd will still attract better players than we can even on a similar wage.

Good positive article, but as has been said the FFP rules will probably be worked around by the big boys and nothing is ever so bright under Ashley sadly, but you never know.

When Fergie leaves Man Utd I see them falling. They have crippling debt and a poor squad.

Chelsea have an old squad but are investing in youth.

Arsenal certainly have some fantastic young players which will keep them in good stead for the future.

Liverpool buy crap english players at high prices even though they have an owner with an average net worth in terms of owning a big club.

Spurs have a strong squad with a great manager but if Redknapp leaves will they stay there? Don't know.

Man City can just buy anyone they want but not offering them high wages so I still expect them to dominate for a couple of years.
