As we have 6 or 7 youth players on the fringe of the first team, how do we incorporate them, ok next round FAcup, I'm against loans as other teams don't play our way. Most people here would be concerned about Fox in the premiership (allows wingers to run at him), so is it worth throwing in Shaw for some home games, same with Stephens at right back. Sinclair has not been given a first team number yet but his goal record is pretty good, difficult for JWP because its hard for a kid to play against men in the mid field (size matters in the middle, whereas most wingers are smaller) but maybe play a few games with a 5 man midfield to give him protection. Corby Moore, Ben Reeves,Jordan Turnball,Calum Chambers and Joe Curtis are others that may be in with a shout within the next year Good problems to have though.
youve got to give them a chance, but its hard now because of 5 sub ruling - if there was 7 subs we could have room for them on the bench but right now we cant unfortunately
That's called Jockeying. You don't dive straight into a tackle. The jump between youth football/reserve football and the southampton first team is massive, they won't all make it.
in the last 5 years, how many times has kelvin been sent off or taken off injured in 240 games, I would say have a 1 in 120 chance of using Bart as a sub ( once every 3 years or so) so I would say it is a great idea and worth the 'risk'
When we were in league 1 he went off injured, I would rather not tempt fate by not having a keeper on the bench
Could turn out alright, Dexter Blackstock put in a good shift in goal against Newcastle a few years back
Fully agree with not having a GK on the bench with the 5 sub rule. The amount of games that we've needed to bring on a new 'keeper compared to games we could have done with another attacking option is inimal. My only worry is that if opposition teams see this tactic whether they then try ot injure the GK? (*cough* Brighton *cough*)
I have always advocated having no sub keeper on five man benches. It was only when seven man benches came in a few years back (before they where obviously taken away again for Football League clubs) that I agreed with selecting a sub keeper. One of the few things I really admire about Warnock (actually, probably the only thing). Rarely, if ever, selected a sub keeper. And if I'm right, whilst at Sheff Utd, he sent Jagielka to train with Paddy Kenny and the goalie coach one afternoon a week, just in case.
I'm not worried about Fox's defending being a problem in the Prem, however I wish Adkins would put Harding in there instead. Saints are tactically becoming very much like Erikson's poor England with Fox playing the 'Beckhamesque' long ball from deep into the box at every chance. If Adkins has told him to do that then it must be because Adkins sees a weakness in Fox's game going forward otherwise he would ask Harding to do exactly the same, which he doesn't. As for the Kids, If Adkins thinks they are nearly ready then he should bring one or two in to the game for the last 15 minutes every game possible. Meaning if we are winning comfrotably (2-0+) with 15 to go, get a youngster on for experience (unless against a really good team)
We should loan them out to Crewe. They play some nice passing football and have a good record of giving youngsters a chance. I think Shaw and Stephens are definitely our future first-choice fullbacks as long as we can hold onto them. Ward-Prowse and Moore will have a hard time getting into the team because of the competition in that position, so I really think they should be loaned out, along with Sinclair. Let's send them all to Crewe (in exchange for Nick Powell).
They give youngsters a chance because they produce a lot of their own so probably wouldn''t be in the business of borrowing other people's. They need experience, so any team where they're needed would do.
They're still pretty weak in certain areas and could do with bringing a couple of players in. But yeah I agree that any loan will do.
