There's a lot of discussion about Rangers shares being suspended and the future of the club. The thing is, if Rangers go to the wall or even if they are no longer able to buy players, Celtic will go to the wall also. The irony in the OF rivalry is that we need Rangers and they need us. And we need a Rangers that is able to at least compete with us. What would happen to Celtic if Rangers were to go down the tubes?
Celtic are more than a club, we would survive Rangers thrive on hatred, there are no Muslim clubs so they'd fizzled out if they had no one to hate
true blue Rangers have 50,000 fans. Where would they go? Even in the worse case scenario Rangers will survive in some capacity even if it means them being reborn and having to start from the 3rd division. It would most likely only be three years before they were back in the SPL. In the meantime we would be winning the SPL and getting European football.
Celtic use Rangers and vise versa to maximise profit, without them or way of working would have to change. Although I don't see it as a bad thing our board certainly do as to them the bottom line is everything and they lack imagination to evolve.
I agree Satan, clubs can never go bust unles they lose their support. They are just reborn. If Rangers were in the third division again, Celtic would walk the SPL. Would as many fans still turn up to supoort them? Ultimately, it could be to the detriment of Celtic if Rangers are penalised too heavily, that was my point.
Would the current board spend as much to strengthen our squad if we only had to beat the likes of Motherwell and Hearts to win the SPL ?
Interesting question. In my opinion, the Huns are entering (have entered) a nuclear winter. They may not ever recover. I accept that competition with them is a draw for the league. If rules are adhered to, they shall not compete in europe next year. I imagine it shall be for the next three years (at least). Next year is automatic entry into the CL. That is ours. Thereafter, it shall be qualifying rounds or europa cup unless we can boost the coefficient. Being in the group stages is 4 coefficient points...... a victory is 2 points and a draw 1 (for both competitions). Those 4 bonus points could help to keep us at the top table in coming years. Developing our own talent can help that. Spending money on the right players can help that. No Huns (or severely crippled Huns) means that europe is the main place to test ourselves and that has to be the ambition of the club.
I thought it was straight entry into champions league but the last I heard that wasn't true and winners of the spl do have to play qualifers. I know someone who watches youth football and he says Rangers present youth team is their worst ever , I noticed they went out 2nd round of the youth cup, they can't even go down that route
Next year is direct entry. The season after it isn't. Not sure about after that, that may be reliant on how we perform. That is a far as I know.
It's clear Rangers are on a downward spiral and are pretty much knackered for the foreseeable. Forgive me but I think Lawwell would DEFINATELY take that as the green light to spend nothing, and where would that leave us in world football? On the one hand I think Rangers should be made to pay long term for winning championships by living beyond their means, on the other hand I think a bad Rangers team would hurt us.
Bad news Craig whyte wife has filed for divorce , will the billionaire lose half his fortune to her ??? Rangers war chest in January could be halved !! Very worrying times ahead
Celtic and every other team in Scottish football will get on with things quite nicely. Will they be missed - no.
Is celtictorybhoy. is he not the half wit true blue and if so I cannot reply to that imbecile, we really have to exclude his type.
Last Hun caller on radio Clyde , so what if Rangers go onto liquidation and have to change their name ,Celtic did it 1994 !!! From Celtic athletic football club to Celtic plc
