Some nice racing today from Doncaster, Ffos Las and Fairyhouse over the jumps and Kempton on the flat. 1.05 Doncaster Theology - ran on the flat for Jeremy Noseda, attaining a highest rating of 110 for a short head 2nd to Mikhail Glinka in the Queens Vase. Highly tried in listed and Group company after that (8th in the ST Leger won by Arctic Cosmos) without getting his head in front and now switched to the in-form Steve Gollings yard, who know how to get a novice hurdler ready first time out. This is a very good contest though and Nicky Henderson's Barenger looks useful based on his easy bumper victory in November, and Noel Chance's Gores Island beat a useful yardstick in Johns Spirit (rated 128) last time out. Jeremiah McGrath claims 5, effectively negating his penalty. Oliver Sherwood's Greenlaw also brings decent bumper form with him and the Henderson "second string" Manmade will appreciate the step up in trip. 1.40 Doncaster Gottany O's - wonderfully named after part of the famous 2 Ronnies sketch "Fork Handles", this former Mick Channon inmate recorded some decent efforts on the flat, including victories at Salisbury (12F soft) and Chester (12F soft and 13F Gd/Soft). Now with Don McCain, he looks the chief rival to likely hotpot Art History, trained by John Ferguson. Whilst rated slightly higher than Gottany O's on the flat, his successes (trained by Mark Johnston) were over 10F and 12F on Good-firm and I just think today's extended 2 miles on Gd-soft will be more suited to Gottany O's. I think Art History will be well supported due to his connections so this may give us a bit more value on the McCain runner. In the bumper David Pipe unleashes now recruit Shotavodka who absolutely dotted up in a Tramore bumper in October and will no doubt be primed for a bold display here. There are however a couple of interesting newcomers and, in receipt of 19lbs from the Pipe horse, Don Cantillon's This Is Me is worth a dabble at around the 100/30 mark, certainly if he drifts to an e/w price during the morning. Best of luck everyone
Today is all about Dickie Le Davoir, who I am afraid is no longer a backable price. I noted the horse up on the blog last night when I backed him, I really think he will win tonight in the 6.15. Nass' Diatribe
Having just consulted the marvellous Festival Index thread and linked to Princess' Entries Thread, I can confirm that yes, today is the day for Gold Cup entries and tomorrow Ryanair and QMCC
Two for pieces of info today to get stuck into: 3:00 Ffos Las - Andrew Nick 5:45 Kempton - Cats Eyes Both should win... Good Luck all...
Morning all Two bets for me today: Donny 1.05 Barenger. Going against Oddy here but I can't help but follow winning partnerships and the Henderson/Tinkler pairing has notched up 5 wins from 15 since Boxing Day, the manner of his bumper win at Newbury suggests there's a load more to come from this one. If Theology converts flat form to timber then he'll be the obvious danger, interesting to see how he handles this softer surface. Fair 1.30 Rathlin Ran into a couple of useful Willie Mullins horses in Novice Chases this term but showed definite ability with a resounding novice hurdle win followed by a very solid effort behind Al Ferof in the Supreme (6th beaten 15 lengths) last season. Still improving I think he'll have enough for the old guard in this race and bar a plunge could be a half decent price at around 4/1
So excited for the festival!! I remember this day last year was when my obsession with Carronhills started..... I wonder what useless gem will have an entry today On a side note does anybody use Betdaq?
Morning all, hope we are all well today... Been busy the last 2 days away from the racing and the forum. Though i miss the banter on the forum i dont think i missed owt on the racing front... Tho I did miss out on letting you know about a 200/1 outsider i thought had a chance... Hope to find something of a bit closer to realism in a bit... Back soon with the avoiders...!!!
Good Morning everyone, Were PaddyPower doing a boosted price offer this morning on the mares bumper at Fairyhouse?? As I have taken 13/2 about Dr Machini and it is now odds on?
Mistake I would say can't see them offering 13/2 on a 1/2 shot even on a special. Either that or Paddy knows something about the other Mullins horse in the race
Yep looks like a finger slip by PP, prices were up for around 7 minutes according to the oddschecker timeline. I would expect them to say that you knew the price was wrong and put it to SP.
PP are better than most - they'll acknowledge the error but I suspect whilst they might settle the bet at SP they'll write to you explaining the reason and offer some kind of sweetener (free bet or something). I noticed also PP are out to get Quevega at 6/4. What price is Big Bucks, 4/7 ? A win double on the pair pays around 2.93/1, and given the 1/4 odds place on all Cheltenham races the place double pays 1.57/1 so for anyone who thinks there might be a fly in the ointment somewhere you can play the double and recover 57% of your win stake if there's one or two too good.....
I was going to say that was a very generous boost. I was of the opinion the wouldn't honour the mistake as well. I can't get away from the Ferguson horse today Art History (NAP). I have been following his horses since the start of the season, he is bang in form and it was a good horse on the flat. Mark Johnston somehow makes all his horses tough so he should enjoy a battle.
