For what it's worth, I think our shirts are shyte, I think our sponsors are shyte , I think this Barmby Army thing is utter utter utter shyte, and I hate the way the fans of Hull City are being held ransom more and more and more by the commercial side of the club. Ahhhhhh! I feel much better for that!
I think our shirts are ****e and our sponsor's ****e, but I've no problem with the Barmby/Koren tees(just a bit of fun, as Rob Brydon would say).
The sponsor is one thing, if they want to pay us more than anyone else to advertise their brand then commercially it makes sense to take their cash. However I cannot understand how shirt manufacturers get so many clubs shirts so wrong - how hard can it be to design a black and amber striped shirt that fans like the design of and want to wear....
True but I think the amount cash converters pay in comparison to a slight drop on shirt sales takings is a commercially astute decision
It is all economics though. Adidas are the brand and unless you are an A1 club you get their seasonal offering. You forget that we did get the away shirt sponsor look changed at the last minute which was fantastic. Its all about the cash and if you wanted to offer City c£500k or whatever it is then I'm sure you could design the shirt
It's not the amount that the sponsors pay that matters though is it? It's the difference between what they pay and what the next best bid was offering to pay. That doesn't explain adidas for the second season running not being able to provide us with a shirt where all the amber is the same shade. (away shirt last year the trim was two different shades as well)
The shade of amber on a white away shirt has to be darker than that on the home shirt or it'll look weak and washed out, as there is no dark tone to provide contrast needed for the amber to 'pop'. The same thing happened with Umbro's 2007/08 away shirt, Patrick's 2002/03 away shirt and Olympic's 1998/99 away shirt, the amber was nearly orange, so adidas don't need to explain anything.
That's not what I said was the problem. The problem with the away kit was that the trim on the away kit was in two different shades. If you look on the sleeves the stripes coming down from the shoulder are a different shade to the loop bit that goes round the Football league patches.
I'm totally with you in the DMD. The club have been right on the ball with things like that recently, starting with changing the Cash Converters logo because people didn't like it on these boards, then making the Barmby Army t-shirts simply because we sang it at Derby and then the Koren t-shirts which were suggested by a fan on facebook. It seems nowadays what fans want most in shirts is a really plain, simple design. I've noticed a couple of 'best kits' lists this season and the winners all seem to be really plain designs. I'm convinced there will be loads of them knocking about next season because they seem to be going down so well lately. I like the idea, but doesn't that amnesty thing seem a bit of a ripoff? When I first read that people having already bought shirts wouldn't miss out, I thought it was going to say they will print it on for free. But no they'll do you it for £20?! ****offff
