Is the atmosphere between Sunderland and Newcastle fans better than ever?

Thing is, although I'm a Newcastle fan and always want to thrash Sunderland and finish above them in the league I quite like to see them do well. Not just our local rivals I also reckon that if you look at ever other team in the country they're the most similar to Newcastle (support, etc). Moreso I reckon before we got relegated about 90% of Newcastle fans would argue we were much bigger due to our time in the Premiership whilst Sunderland had been a touch more rollercoaster between the leagues, but that's not really the case now. On paper the Sunderland team pips Newcastle (my opinion) but you don't hear much of that from their fans because they had a stupidly bad start to the season whilst we have over-achieved. As such i think both sets of fans are being nice as we're not really sure what to expect for the rest of the season.

Just thought I'd say that I hope we both keep doing well and that we finish one place above you in the league (so you can have 5th) and beat you 10-1 in the FA cup final (see i even give you 1 goal). Its much better when we're in the same league, i guess i even want Boro to come back. Care more about games with them than games with most of the teams in the Prem at the moment.

    Carry on.

Well I gotta disagree about the Sunderland team looking better on paper - at beginning of season yeah because we didn't know a lot about some of our players, but now we do - they are awesome! I still also think we are much bigger ;) lol

I don't really mind whether they do well or not, I'm not one of those that is dying for them to lose and get relegated etc. in fact I probably hate the likes of Villa, Stoke, Liverpool more than them due mainly to their fans being horrible bastards and in Liverpool's case being so arrogant about themselves.

I don't think we have overachieved tbh - I think our team is definetly a top 7 team. I think our spine is class, we have lots of quality and team spirit is amazing. Although, squad is quite thin which would be our downfall if we had one.

One of my mates is a semi Sunderland fan (his dad supports them). I genuinely want them to do well, same as us, although of course i want us to do better.

I agree that it's a lot better being in the same league, and i'd rather the derbys were competitive and thus more interesting. As far as i'm concerned, i'd rather the North East teams do well than the traditional London and Manchester clubs <ok>

I probably shouldn't have said "team" so much as "squad". I think that we're very relaint on our first 11, whereas they've got a good squad. For instance - we had three centre backs out and lost (as was expected pretty much) or drew games we could have got more from. Sunderland have got Turner, O'Shea, Brown, Killgannon, Bramble, just off the top of my head.

Anyhoo, wasn't really wanting to get into a "who has the better team/squad" debate. But points accepted.

    Krul vs Mignolet
    Santon vs Richardson
    Coloccini vs O'Shea
Williamson vs Kilgallon - Tough to call
    Simpson vs Brown
    Obertan vs Larsson
    Tiote vs Cattermole
    Cabaye vs Gardner
Jonas vs McClean - Bright future ahead of the lad while Jonas is a little off the boil
    Ben Arfa vs Sessegnon
    Ba vs Bendtner

All in my humble opinion of course! I probably have some of the mackem players in the wrong position. We are very strong through the middle while Sun'lan are better than us on the wings

Yeah squad is probably better numbers wise. Not sure if the quality is better though - they have a lot of ****e Championship players in their squad like. We have a couple to aswell I suppose

I'd say when everyone is fit this would be the team:

    Krul

    Santon - Taylor - Coloccini - Richardson

Larsson - Tiote - Cabaye - Ben Arfa

    Sessegnon

    Ba

I was talking to the two unwashed lads I work with about this exact thing. I think we are in very similar boats now, we have our gripes, but still support our teams to the full. Of course we want to finish above the other but it's local rivalry.

Don't get me wrong, there is no better feeling than beating them, a feeling they may not remember, but there are at least two premier league teams I hate much much more. Liverpool and Stoke are those teams, I hate the fact Liverpool and there glory seeking fans think they deserve to be in the top four and that the world revolves around them. Stoke, well, they are a rugby team full of ex mackems managed by a cap wearing ****.

    Your probably right BUT

    Krul vs Westwood
    Santon vs Bardsley
    Coloccini vs Brown
    Williamson vs Bramble
    Taylor vs Turner
    Simpson vs OShea
    Obertan vs Larsson
Tiote vs Cattermole (depends which Cattermole turns up but again on consistancy)
Cabaye vs Vaughan (ok I will give you that one just)
Jonas vs McClean - Bright future ahead of the lad while Jonas is a little off the boil
    Ben Arfa vs Sessegnon
    Ba vs Bendtner
    Amieobi vs Wickham
    Lovencrans vs Campbell
Best vs Gyan (he is still our player)
    Guthrie vs Colback
    Gosling vs Gardener
    S Ameobie vs Richardson

Ok only my opinion, on Ben Arfa I would need to see him play more.

To be fair I think its a close run thing, in BA, Cabaye and Tiote you have 3 excellent players who could all get in top 4 sides in my view.

BECAUSE many of them don't actually think that's true. Some would argue it to the hilt, and they're entitled to their opinion, but with Ba, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote, Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Krul and now Santon looking fantastic, it would be difficult to really argue it in my view. We're the ones who have rumours flying around about top 5 clubs trying to prise away half our starting XI, which is testament to that.

Although, as they feel the support and passion for their players, I suspect most of them actually wouldn't swap our players for theirs. For example, I reckon Sessegnon and Ben Arfa would be the two best wingers for a tyne-wear XI, but Larsson has some serious mackem fans after the free kicks and goals he's pulled off.

Its possibly because i live in Liverpool so I pay more attention to any games with North-East teams. The only other football fans i'd go as far as to say i hate (i'd rarely claim to hate anyone to be honest) are the Villa fans - their celebrations when we went down were, in my view, totally uncalled for and showed that many of their fans have a small club mentality which belies some of their achievements. As such the feeling of tonking them 6-0 when we came back up was about as good for me as beating Sunderland 5-1. Karma I'd say. Nowt against fans of any other team (i think, maybe i can come up with more reasons if i spend longer on this).

ps. A wum? But i didn't write in capitals, mispell everything and puct FACT at the end of everything i wrote...
