Could Demba's mythical 5-10million release clause actually be a good thing?

    Hi Guys,

I've started a new thread for this as I think its a bit different to the other Demba threads but if its too similar merge away :emoticon-0100-smile

I've been thinking about this reported release clause on Ba's contract, which could now be as low as 5 million, if certain tax evading douchebags are to be believed. After the debacle of the Andy Carroll saga last year, leaving us without a first choice striker for the rest of the season, this could be a bit of a blessing in disguise. The clause itself will prevent Ashley from trying to cash in on Ba's early success and force him out of the club, as I believe he did with Carroll. With us getting a maximum of 5/10 mil from any sale it won't be worth it for Ashley, as he'd be selling a player that has the potential to make him a great deal more money either by helping the club gain European qualification or simpley by getting him to sign a more lucrative contract, giving him the scope too make a Carroll-esq killing on the lad at a later date.

Thus it comes down to Ba making the decision to stay or to screw over the club that gave him a chance where the likes of Stoke turned him down. Call me naieve but the lad comes across as quite a level headed guy and certainly hasn't been making noises about leaving for 'bigger' clubs (aside from the PSG quote but I'm not reading too much into that). He also has plenty going on atm with the ACON. I think if he plays he's cards right he can probably get himself a big money (by our standards) contract here without feeling that he's blocking himself from a move to the likes of PSG (we all know Ashley will sell if the price is right).

We as fans meanwhile, get to keep our top player and continue our push for our best finish in years, and who knows we have a favourable FA cup draw and one of the big 4 is already out... If Ba does go then hopefully it'll be in the summer, with pleanty of time to find a replacement.

And yes, I'm an optimistic cynic... Not sure how that works...

Ba loves it here. He said the fans make him feel loved and he loves us back. Really nice lad and even though money talks, apparently he earns £60k a week after bonuses here, so can't seem him making much more anywhere else.

Obviously, in football you don't know what is around the corner - we could sell him and find another Ba who smashes the goals in and he could do a Carroll somewhere else and not score at all - or we could keep him and he might break Shearer's record and help us win the title in a few years time.

It's all down to him really (depending on the fee). Lots of teams will be willing to pay it, it's just whether he chooses to stay or go

Don't think anything will happen this window (fingers crossed) due to the ACON, summer may be a different story.

Well if it is 'mythical' as the title suggest I'll be delighted!

It was Ba that negotiated the release clause into his contract. That tells you everything you need to know.

Just hate going into the summer with the same mindset , I hate it.

We're being punished for our players' excellent performances.

Yeah couldn't that have been his agent? Also at that point he hadn't played for us/didn't know how the team was going to play. He could have changed his mind.

I bet everyone is hyping this up to be some waaaaay more than it actually is.

I mean come on, everyone knows what Mike Ashley is like now... in his eyes, what sense would it make in paying these huge sums on 'free' transfers remember only to put something in as low as a £5M release clause on a striker?

Not to mention the fact that Demba hardly hates it here...

The ACoN is a blessing in disguise as a January transfer is hugely unlikely. If we finish 7th this season it may be enough to keep Ba and/or Tiote.

The realist would say we'll lose at least one of them unfortunately.

But **** it, look how committed they were v Man U last Wednesday, them boys don't want to be playing anywhere else <ok>

Where did you hear about his wages?

OP - It could be...This season has been brilliant and I keep thinking something will go wrong - last season it was Carroll, then in the summer it was Enrique and Barton going (Nolan's goals as well) and each time I, and the pundits, expect us to fail, we come back stronger, but for how long can this continue?

The realist in me thinks we'll lose someone important in January, whilst Colo and another big name will be off in the summer. On the other hand, the Newcastle fan in me still thinks we'll bring in a couple of top players and be back amongst the big boys with everyone staying put and loving the club as much as I do!

When he signed I heard was £60k per week, which I thought was his wages before bonuses then someone told me that they heard it was after bonuses etc. can't be 100% on how true it is like
