Don't worry pal, Durham students spend loadsa time in Newcastle. Just get a Newcastle-Durham train season ticket, it's only ten minutes. Also a great university as well (they reckon it's in the UK 'Ivy League' along with Oxford, Cambridge, the Londons, Exeter, York and Birmingham), but will probably ask for higher grades than Newcastle. Good city. I am biased though, my Dad's a part-time professor at Durham (you won't see him, he's a Doctor who avoids students like the plague!), and both my parents went to Newcastle.

If you get into Newcastle, the accommodation to go for, as a Geordie, is Leazes Park. It's literally a stones through from the stadium (across a beautiful park), 1 minute from various uni buildings (although they're mostly stuff like the dental school I think), 5 mins from the city centre. Possibly might only be for post-grads now though, I'm not sure.

Yea heard it's like in the top 50 universities in the world! Not sure if I'd get in though , don't know how they compare Belgian qualifications (nothing to do with IB or A-Levels) to UK qualifications as the Belgian one consists of a simple a percentage for each grade.

Nothing more nothing less and we take exams for like 12 subjects , even in the last year , which is very annoying.

Appreciate the recommendations , will all be thoroughly considered! :D

If your looking for posh students, go for Jesmond. sandyford is the best i reckon, close to the unis and town, couple of decent corner shops, and close to some decent boozers. quite a cheap area and not as far out as heaton

Unless you're a loud obnoxious toff Jesmond may not be the place for you. I am from Newcastle and you'll not find many locals there. Heaton is ok to live, you have all the amenities you need on your doorstep and the business school is a 10 minute walk, as is the Ouseburn where there's some good bars for young uns. Personally, I'd recommend Gosforth, cracking place to live with good transport and it's own pubs.

Sandyford is definitely a good shout. Rent etc. is cheaper than Jesmond, but you're still close to Osborne Road, the unis and the centre of town. Only problem is you get a slightly bigger local population, who might get a bit miffed at noisy parties etc.
