Is Nicky Barmby really the man for us...?

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is going to be contencious, I know, but I am compelled to raise it as a serious discussion point...
Are we sure NB really is the right man for us? Put aside all of our natural zest for a man who has been, without doubt, one of the Hull City greats and one of my personal favourites. But is it time to be realistic? We have lost the last 3 games, very important games over what is recognised by all as a crucial time in the season. Has it occured to people that win those 3 and we would be top of the table?
I accept (and am very grateful!) that we had a good start under NB and he has already brought in some good signings (Oh thank God he could see how bad our keeper position was!) so things should get better. But Nicky is not a manager. Was the good start a "good will" push by his fellow players to get us over adversity? It didn't last did it...?

I would love NB to succeed, deserately hope he does and wish him all the very best, but I fear in a month he may be getting vilified on here if things don't come good. I stand by to get a barrage of abuse for this comment, but I stand by it. I want Nicky to succeed, but am not sure he is the right man to take us back with his utter lack (not his fault!) of experience and should we have brought in a seasoned old soul to guide us...

One last thought. When was the last time a player took over a club and guided them to the promised land in his first (or couple) of seasons? There is a first time for everything, for Nicky Barmby's sake, a man I revere as a player and a man, please let it be now, or let us NOT start getting into him if it doesn't happen...

Three points today would be a good start!

At the end of the day we are playing much better football under NB, as opposed to Mr Media. We are creating more chances than ever under his leadership, the only downfall is putting those chances away, deffo not the fault of the tactician, the onus was always on the team's strikers.

Good post supersoutherntiger, even though I don't agree with your opinion you've put put yours across very well and shouldn't be slated for it.

What I mainly disagree with you on is the experience side of things. Nick has worked under a lot of different managers who have been at the top of the game and I expect he's learned at lot from them over his career. Working alongside so many great managers would definitely have rubbed off on him. He's also got Steve Wigley to work alongside him who's certainly experienced in the business and has four years in management at 3 different clubs under his belt. Wigley has also been an assistant manager to a lot of managers so he'll have learned from them too. He also has been a Hull player for 8 years now so will have a good knowledge of the squad and how the club works.

Our poor form at late hasn't been too worrying because bar Derby we haven't been playing that bad. We definitely didn't deserve to lose against Boro and Burnley and our record under Nick as a whole is still positive - won 5, lost 5. That's 15 points out of a possible 30, which may look poor for a team gunning for promotion, however you have to take into account that with a new manager comes a settling in period. Hopefully our results should pick up after January.

Definitely the man for the job! We shouldn't expect miracles though.

I think next season on after a full pre-season we will see better how Nicky is getting on with management, anything he achieves this season is a bonus and people shouldn't have too high expectations as he has literally jumped in at the deep end, which is something to be praised

I like the way he's setting the team up, I like the players he's selecting to play and I like the new targets he's looking at.

We've played well in the recent games we've lost and only poor finishing has let us down, that's down to the players, not the manager.

If there is a downside to Nick's appointment, I haven't seen it yet.

Couldn't have put it better myself. (Well actually I could, but I would have said basically the same thing!)

A very well written post, but you must be a natural worrier SST!

All managerial appointments are a gamble, no-one can forsee what is going to happen, there is no guaranteed way of succeeding.

We have a great bunch of young players, most of which can make the step up to the Premier League imho, and there's nothing I've seen from the 10 games to suggest NB is out of his depth.

Just enjoy the brand of football under NB and hopefully the results will be good too and everyone's happy.

Sometimes I think fans get stressed just for the sake of getting stressed!

we had a manager with more experience, who was grinding out results, yet i spent every single minute of his reign wanting to punch him repeatedly in the face and throat , so for me he is the man for the job, i am enjoying supporting city again, win or lose.

I don't think anyone will knock barmby at all if we miss out this year! Too much respect for him and those with half a brain know he's new to this part of the football world so we'll be patient with him. Him of all people too!

Secondly as for experience I feel all he needs is a wise old head behind him! Get Ray Wilkins in as number two ;) barmby will shine more I think in the season after this, be that in prem or not! Hes still setting the club up how he wants. That's takes time.

And I agree with form, we've been good. Blame those feet of the strikers for staying in bed! Love Fryatt but slowly my patience with him is being tested!!!! One I'd like is that Rhodes kid from Huddersfield. Or anichebe from everton, he'd (I think) tear defences up in this league. Big strong lad like him!

I have to agree that I also had my reservations about NB jumping into the hot seat. But I think with the passion he's showing and the way he wants the players to "play for the badge" will surely help him not only attract players and make players want to stay. That passion and the sacrifice he's made by killing off his playing career will surely afford him the patience he needs from us fans. He's in this for the club not his career and that will surely rub off on the players. UTT

I don't think many will get on Nicks back if things go wrong. Some will of course, the usual suspect have already started. But there will be far more who will get behind him. I think he'l do a great job. Barmby army !

Who would you suggest is the man for the job, if it isn't Barmby?

It's not like we've had hundreds of applicants all queuing around the KC wanting to be our next manager is it?

If you're worried about us losing the last three- bloody hell it's normal. Most predicted us to be midtable this season. Give it time and enjoy it.

You are forgetting that before the three losses we were on a good run of wins. Without those wins we would not be in the play off spots.

I'm guessing that Roy Keane used that same old horny chestnut when he sold Jordan Rhodes!

Fukcing hell, before all the cynical doubts set well and truly in give him a chance FFS! As Lambo rightly states he's done NOTHING - other than THE Dawson substitution, and he'll have learned plenty from that - wrong at the moment. At least have the decency of waiting until there is a genuine fear, which under his tutelage I seriously doubt, of relegation before bitching about the guy.

    Fukcing unbelievable!
