Liverpool and Merseyside Police are investigating an incident of alleged abuse from fans towards Oldham Athletic defender Tom Adeyemi. He looked like he was in tears. Footballers must be well used to loads of verbal abuse so what the hell can have been said that got him that upset?
Was reading the article the BBC web site just now. Apparently the lad is quiet and unassuming and just gets on with things. He is not one that usually over reacts. So it would seem that some thing quite dramatic was said to upset him. It is a shame that teams like Liverpool has fans that feel the need to verbally abuse players to the point of tears. Yet feel the team need this kind of support. We saw it more recently at Portsmouth........Where has the sportsmanship gone out of our sports? Why the win at all costs no matter how you do it attitude. Do people get the same satisfaction from winning even if you have cheated to do it? Have we as a society stooped so low?
Well, if it's audible on tape, then the club could be in trouble. A large fine might change a few attitudes.
Truly shocking. Words fail me really, how can this still be happening? Liverpool should be truly ashamed, and sorry but it wasnt a minority atall, you can hear the whole kop sining luis suarez songs and booing when they can clearly see his distress. These bans and fines clearly aren't working and theres got to be more drastic measures taken.
Obviously they have something against Evra so now apply it to anyone the same colour - definition of moronic
It is difficult to comment about what happened as the details are not clear and there is a police enquiry underway. However are there are some disturbing trends with this. Liverpool FC tried to defend Suarez's actions with rather a weak argument but I believe their concern was nothing to do with racism but was all to do with protecting their commercial interests. In my opinion they have sold their soul to the devil and rather sadly some of their rather stupid fans (of which I believe they have quite a few) believe they are showing solidarity by thinking that continuing to behave in a racist way is in some perverse way supporting the club and Suarez. It is all terribly tragic and for a supposedly pleasant and intelligent young man like Tom Adeyemi to be brought near to tears by the actions of Livepool fans leaves a very nasty tatse in the mouth and unfortunately has devalued my, and I am sure many other people's, opinion of them. If the FA and the FL are truly determined to stamp out this most objectionable of prejudices then if Liverpool fans are found guilty their club should be thrown out of the FA Cup this season. They have besmirched the name of the oldest football competition in the world.
As punishment perhaps a couple of home games under locked doors with no fans and a ban On TV camera's at the ground for the rest of the season might be appropriate.
The "real" Liverpool FC fans should shop these morons immediately. They are destroying the reputation of a once proud and mighty Club.
I've heard they said something else too, something far stronger which I daren't repeat. Sounds like he got really distressed at the whole incident, and if it's proven that all these things were indeed said then I could see Liverpool get a HUGE fine/chucked out of competition/playing games behind closed doors/all of the above. Fair play to the Liverpool players for trying to comfort him, god knows what they all must be thinking right now. This whole saga however has definitely scarred Liverpool's reputation forever, considering they are one of the most successful and well-known clubs in world football. HOWEVER, I'm trying to cast my mind back as to what happened when I think it was Samuel Eto'o was racially abused while playing for Barca a few years back....a quick Youtube search suggests it was against Real Zaragoza. I thought that football had got rid of this sort of thing by and large, but clearly it is a much larger problem now than in recent times, and I can only hope that this is the height of it and no other clubs get sucked into it, and I especially hope that we don't ever get sucked into it either. Luckily for us, our fans seem to be farely well behaved and any insults are usually in keeping within a reasonable banter level.
If i heard any fan shouting anything like that I would stop it, no questions. Absolutely disgusting. Why are there so many socially inept morons in the world?
Really hate to burst your bubble about us Saints fans, but there was a moron near us at the Bristol C game that was F'ing & C'ing this that & the other all game long. I know our beloved Guly was not having one of his best games, but to call him an "F'ng Lazy Black C'" !!!!!! was bang out of order. I did note that the guy in front of him turned round & gave him a right filthy glare...... Now I'm a man of the world & can tolerate so much colourful language, but this guy was bang out of order... I really do despise people who have to resort to racist remarks like that.. rant over..
In truth my friend, every ground in the country has this type of fan in their midst. We at Saints can count our selves lucky in the main as it would appear they are very few and far between. It does appear that certain grounds up and down the country have more than their fair share of bigots!
The player should not have been subjected to anything, but it must have been more than the usual moronic stuff for him to get so upset. His manager said that he is, if anything, too quiet on the pitch so it must have been very unpleasant to get him shouting back. Liverpool have made a big error coming out in favour of Suarez without looking at all the facts. Suddenly, within a few weeks, their reputation is in shreds.
All happened because of the stupid suarez/evra and Terry/Ferdinand (non)incidents. Now fans will shout abuse at these players and others.
