These two sides have met in the FA Cup in one previous season, 1961-62, when Boro went through after a replay, winning the second game 5-1.

Middlesbrough are without a win in their last three FA Cup games, going out in the third round in each of the last two seasons as well as going out in the sixth round against Everton in 2008-09.

Shrewsbury have lost each of their last five FA Cup meetings with teams from a higher division, and have won just one of their last 15 clashes with teams from superior divisions.

The two sides haven't met in any competition since the 1987-88 season when Boro won both meetings in the old Division Two.

No team has managed to score more than two goals in any of Middlesbrough's last 18 FA Cup games.

Boro's home form has been draw-ish, and rather drab. However, they remain an excellent contender for promotion to the Premiership this season, and it will be a very tough game.

    • [*]Recent league form: WWWDL
[*]Top Scorers: Emnes (10), Robson (7), McDonald (7)
    • Last Meeting: Shrewsbury 0-1 Middlesbrough (back in 1988, don't know who scored!)
      [*]Middlesbrough's League Position: 4th, 45 points from 25 games, 7 Goal Difference
      [*]Middlesbrough's Home Record: W5, D7, L1, F15, A10

      [*]Shrewsbury's Away Record: W4, D3, L6, F17, A18
    • Lenny's SUPER Fact: Shrewsbury have lost each of their last five FA Cup meetings with teams from a higher division, and have won just one of their last 15 clashes with teams from superior divisions.

    Lenny's Prediction:

Middlesbrough 3-1 Shrewsbury, Attendance 10,123 (Collins)

Must win game for Middlesbrough. They cannot afford to be humbled by a League Two team.

    Middlesbrough 0 Shrewsbury 3 (Morgan 2, Gornell)

shrews missed 2 sitters according to final score, ainsworth and richards at fault or unlucky. then boro go 1 up in 40th min. come on you shrews, a draw would be useful. no disgrace if we lose. floreat salopia. breath on 'em shrews

Sounds like Neal had a good game. AJ do you have access to radio commentary? Or have you bought the Shrewsplayer?

hi matster, i do not have radio commentary down here unless shrews are playing in devon. i have not heard of a shrewsplayer, but i pick up snippets from final score and the text "commentary" on the beeb. boro had most of the play until the last 10 mins when a double sub. by gt got us back into the game and ainsworth and co were crossing the ball and morgan was busy at the end. it could easily have been a draw, and if we had taken our chances in first half might have won. well done swindon and crawley and maccs nearly embarrassed bolton.,

i have been on the bristol titty boards telling them crawley will do the double. i have not yet let on gas and city

You could subscribe to Shrewsplayer. I think it is £36 a year or currently £17.99. You get all match spoken commentary by shrews pundits via computer and access to news earlier and video footage after the game. Might be worth it as an exile in darkest Devon.

I have just got back from sunny Portugal and have been dismayed at the meagre returns of the three matches while I have been away. We are still creating chances but our misfiring strikers cannot hide from the fact they are not doing the business. With two six-pointer home games coming up we desperately need to loan or buy a striker this week. Get to it GT!

Maybe we just need to re-adjust the orthopaedic weights slightly in Marvelous' boots?
