Kean may lose cash from Samba sale
    Harry Harris, ESPNsoccernet
    January 6, 2012

QPR have made a £5 million bid for Blackburn defender Christopher Samba, but ESPNsoccernet has learned that manager Steve Kean might not be able to spend all the money he acquires through player sales.

As clubs such as Spurs, QPR and Newcastle circle Blackburn in pursuit of their top stars such as Samba and Junior Hoilett, a source with impeccable connections to the turmoil facing Kean and Rovers has alerted ESPNsoccernet to the problems ahead for the club's manager in the January transfer window.

Kean wants Andrew Johnson, Chris Gunter, Bradley Orr, Nedum Onuoha and Esteban Granero but the source said: "Will the manager be able to re-invest money from sales into buying new players? That is the question the club have not yet answered.

"The problem appears to be the £18 million overdraft facility at Barclays Bank. Not all the money from the sale of Phil Jones went into player recruitment; it might only have been £10 million of the £16 million basic amount, as money was needed to reduce the bank overdraft.

"That overdraft has come down, but how much influence is the bank now applying to the owners, and insisting on a certain amount of player sales going to the bank?

"Clearly Junior Hoilett is coming to the end of his contract this summer and has so far not re-signed, so it would make sense to sell him now rather than risk him going for free in the summer.

"However, is there any point in the manager selling his best players, if he cannot be assured of all the money to buy the players he wants, if indeed this is what is happening?

"Chris Samba is wanted by plenty of clubs, Spurs, Newcastle, QPR. the manager might be thinking it is better to keep Samba than risk some of the money going to the bank and he doesn't get the player he needs.

"There are, of course, other players the manager can sell, such as Steven N'Zonzi, Martin Olsson, and a few others, but would they get a decent price?"

Kean would expect a large chunk of the value of any sales to be reinvested into new players and it could make for a fascinating end to the January transfer window at Ewood Park.

Could it be that we are targeting clubs with economic difficulties for "bargains"? First Rangers and now Blackburn, hardly a coincidence.

It is very strange and unusually pleasingly to hear about QPR's £5m bid for Samba on the radio. Make me do a double take! Hope it happens. COYRsssss!!

I think Samba will go to a bigger club, if indeed he leaves.
However, this bid does show very positive intent imo.

Agreed. Problem is intent only gets you so far - there was intent as regards Crouch and Bellamy last year. We need some good news right now. I guess a lot of these clubs and players will take it to the wire approaching Feb in the hope of the best deal.

This article "however believable" also mentions that Martin Olsson could be available, I think he is a pretty decent mid-fielder could be the answer in this area?

Not true. Intent is good enough for the FA and it's good enough for us.

Didn't even rhyme in Norwegian Goldie:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Col; if a bigger club rated Samba he wouldn't still be playing for Blackburn IMO.

Why does Kean bother to stay at Blackburn if they sell their best players? He's got no chance of keeping them up.

And I don't have a hole in my arse. The Venkys would sell their grandmother for the right price.

Hey! That statement is even shorter than the ones the Goons used to feed us with. And knowing Venkys, probably as reliable <doh><laugh>
