    SSN - breaking news.

QPR have bid £5m for Chris Samba.

We have to be interested at this kind of money dont we? I would imagine there would be 6 or 7 suitors for the big fella if he were to leave but I maintain my belief that he could walk into the Chelsea, Arsenal or Man Utd defences for that kind of money and we may well be better off looking to go for Johnny Evans imo.

He isnt the most popular defender at OT amongst fans and IO reckon SAF will want to recruit.

Thats said, Samba would be an awesome signing and I'd like to think we threw our hat in the ring if nothing else.

Theres no chance he'll go to QPR. The only chance QPR have is to act early and get in before anyone else. He would be doing himself a massive disservice if he went there. I reckon he'll go to a club with Europa League ambitions, nothing higher. That is if he leaves this window at all, I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't go anywhere.

I do find it really amusing that some people think he is only good enough to go to one of the chasing pack of Europa place clubs.

Can anyone of those people please tell me which currently available defenders from Chelsea, Man Utd or Arsenal are actually better?

He is currently a better defender than ANY of the Arsenal back 4, better than Terry and Luiz (I'm actually better than Luiz) and he is better that Rio and Jones. Only Vidic is a better defender for Utd but he is out for the season now. Let me put it this way, if had been playing on Wednesday, the likes of Amadonkey and Ba would have had a helluva bigger problem to deal with.

For £5m he would be a steal for any of thse top 4 clubs imo.

SSN have announced that QPR have put a formal bid in though Com, for £5m. That may well start the ball rolling and get the auction going.

I reckon he will go for around £7m but as he is out of contract and could go for nowt in the summer, he may well just wait and walk away in May to the club of his choice.

There is not a better CH in the league imho. Vidic has a poor injury record while big Chris is like a brick wall.

I agree there's not much chance of us getting him but hey, shy bairns get nee sweets.

Honestly, if he came here I'd have a ****.

    LOL.

Could go a lot higher if some of the big lads get involved...

There's not to many top defenders around, and i expect him to be in high demand...

QPR are also said to have bid for Collins of Villa...seem they are making the first moves in this window.

5m would be great business for ANY club in the league including the top four. Samba is very good in my opinion. He was ****e when he came to our place I have to say, looked totally disinterested. Would love us to sign him because I think he is top notch but he is not the type we are after. I think Pardew wants a ball playing centre back to cover Colo because Williamson/Saylor fill the ball winner role. Hence young Tomkins (who I have to say I have not watched this year but was god awful in the PL).

I could actually see Samba ending up at Sunderland if his wage demands are sensible. If he is just looking for a payday, I think he'll go to QPR. I wouldn't touch Evans with a barge pole. The lad has regressed massively since he was last with you. He is just so easy to drag out of position.

Samba or Evans would both be decent business for us IMO - Evans needs a new start as his Man U career is now looking like petering out - granted he hasn't been the best this season but neither (comparitively) have the Man Utd defence!!

If we can get either of these in soon then I'd be very happy.

I agree with Billy..... Samba is the best centre half in the league.

We have to be interested at this kind of money

Reportedly, they are financially ****ed, they will hope for a bidding war & cash in if his contract is up in the summer imo.

Yes, I quite agree & they don't even know which direction the Venky's are taking the club in.

Well Cahill looks like £7m and Samba is better, and i'm guessing he'll end up at Spurs.

Ofcourse he has the ability to play in the teams at the top. I however don't think he will end up in one of those teams. Those are two very different things.

More than likely I will be wrong and Chelsea or Man U will now come in for him.

Definitely agree we should be in the pack chasing this guy but also agree he is likely to go top 6.

I don't however think he is the best centre half in the EPL - His ratings have shot up over the last season on the back of some admittedly sterling performances, but I still think he has his limitations. A good old fashioned number 5 though in my opinion and given the importance of effectively defending set plays now in the EPL he is worth a place in most teams back 4

Do we actually need a CB though?

    We have..

    Brown
    O'Shea
    Bramble
    Turner
    Kilgallon
    Laing

I think if we are looking for defenders then we should be looking for a right back and left back
