Substantial bid?? I would have though Rooney would command only a percentage of the fee that we would need to lay down for Kuffour

Superblue I agree, I cannot imagine the offer will be that substantial but anything will be better than the sod all we will get in the summer, and will help with finding the funds for Kuffour.

any funds towards signing kuffour and a winger/rb combo type player will be greatfully appreciated, espically if it means rooney goes, dont get me wrong hes a technically gifted player but his footballing brain is lacking and they arent easy to learn!!

The bid is reported as six figure and with Gills weak negotiating position they need to grab what they can get. Remember the personal terms are the most important thing for the brat. To complicate it further the brat's dad is supposed to be his agent so there could be some bizarre negotiating going on. Brat will want at least a new playstation and could insist on a new bike as well. Dad may expect pdc to fix him up with something Italian, at the very least an intro with Sophia Loren.
The Brat has been a mixed bag this year and demonstrated real ability alongside amazing immaturity. To get sent off twice as a sub really is something and more or less says it all. Frankly he is unmanageable as pdc will find out so good riddance.

Ah what the heck stick the threads where you like <ok><laugh>

    Rooney...
Is it worth this substantial fee if Swindon gain promotion over us through it?

We do have a negotiating position as we have to look at the bid and consider whether we would get more or less than that from a tribunial in the Summer as he's under 23, therefore comes under the Bosman rule.

In regards to promotion, Rooney won't be the difference for either side and we all know that.

If it is a 'six figure fee' then snatch there bloody hands off and buy Kuffour, who certainly could be the differene between League 1 and League 2. Use the rest on a couple of loan players.

Absolutely - out with Rooney, in with Kuffour! That would be shrewd, shrewd business

If I were Bristol Rovers, I would not let Kuffour go and I think (could be wrong) that some of the Gas fans might turn in favour of him now Buckle has gone.

If Rovers do not want him, I would have to ask the question why considering their current situation i.e. maybe they think the same as some do about Rooney, it certainly does not wear with me this nearer to London stuff.

Do not get me wrong, I would love to have Kuffour and I hope it does happen, then I will be happy. In the meantime I cannot help but question the situation.

Every time we miss out by 1 point or goal difference each season, this latest episode I believe could be a deciding factor come the end of the season, let us just hope we get the decision making right.

I think it is best if we let him go.

    Swindon are welcome to him.

I'd rather accept their ridiculous amount and try and get Kuffour back than having someone who thinks they're bigger than the club.

Can one of the people who are in the know tell me what the Rooney deal is,

How much is his current deal worth?
What is the new deal offered worth?
What sell on clauses are included in the new deal? (if a club from a higher league came in what price would trigger his release)

I have no idea of the negotiations so far and find it hard to be critical of Rooney without any facts, I do know he has handled himself very well during these discussions and refrained from making any tweets or statements on the situation, he has stated that he wants to play and finds it hard to sit on the sidelines.

If Swindon have offered around 100k then we should take it but put in some add ons like promotion and any sell on fees. We must then sign Kuffer who should cost no more than 50k as we need a sriker badly.

I think he is worth 150k as Swindon are the ones who made the approach, we did not transfer list him.

Some times a change of scenery does a player good. Maybe he's been too comfortable at the Gills. If/when he moves on I really hope he is able to kick on. IMHO he should be able to go further, ability wise, but as others have said attitude could be a stumbling block. One thing he could certainly do with is getting a proper agent. Someone like Steve Davies (not the snooker player) would see him in the right direction.
