As the calendar has passed 1st January we now have a new set of first crop sires to watch out for when the Flat season restarts in March. The major stallions with first crop two year olds this year include: DUKE OF MARMALADE - 111 foals LUCARNO - 62 foals MOUNT NELSON - 78 foals NEW APPROACH - 85 foals PAPAL BULL - 51 foals RAMONTI - 23 foals (appears to have had significant fertility issues as 60 mares were covered) RAVEN'S PASS - 77 foals SAKHEE'S SECRET - 91 foals SIXTIES ICON - 39 foals VITA ROSA - 11 foals (not populat with breeders, hence his export to Italy) 2012 will also see the first two year olds from some outstanding racemares: Zarkava - unnamed Dalakhani filly in training with Andre Fabre Peeping Fawn - Galileo filly named PURELY PRICELESS Finsceal Beo - unnamed Galileo colt
Purely Priceless, what a torrid name. PN, any numbers of horses in training for the first season sires?
Not sure on distance, we'll have to see a number of runners first. I don't have numbers in training, but I will re-edit the original post to include numbers of foals born. Of the group, the DUKE OF MARMALADEs, the NEW APPROACHs and the MOUNT NELSONs proved the most popular.
I forgot to include in my original list HENRYTHENAVIGATOR. As he stood in the USA he will not have the numbers behind him to make a serious challenge on First Season Sire honours. According to the US Jockey Club, he has 114 foals in his first crop. To my knowledge there are at least 30 in training in Europe, possibly more.
